Kids in sleeping bags

Looking for some ideas or advice...

We have three small boys who like using their own sleeping bags in the pop-up.  We lay them across the king size bed, with their feet pointing into the trailer.  The problem is that the sleeping bags have a slippery shell as does the mattress.  As the kids move in the night the bags slide, twist, creep down, etc.  At least once a night we have to pop a kid bag into their bag!

Any good ideas how we can keep sleeping bags somewhat secured to a mattress?

Sew the bags to the bed, then sew the kids inside the bag(leaving their heads out of course).  They won't go anywhere, and it will free up your time to do some things you want to do.......come to think of it I might use that one myself....

The only quick constructive idea that I could think of was to buy some good old hook and loop strips (velcro) and stick the softer hook side of the tape on the backs of the sleeping bags. When the kids are laying on the mattress this might keep the bags from sliding down. Just a very quick idea, have not tried this though!
Good Luck,

Probably the easiest solution is a cotton or flannel fitted sheet on the mattress...That is what we did in a friends camper and it seemed to work well.

If your kids sleep the way our DD sleeps, I would avoid Velcro ... you'll be hearing that lovely "velcro rip" sound all night. DD tends to squirm in her sleep a lot ... it's funny even at home to see her wake up completely rolled up in her sheet!

One thing you might try is different sleeping bags for the PUP. Use your "slick" bags for tent camping and such, and get some fabric bags (something like the inexpensive coleman bags with the fabric shell) for popup use, since you don't have to worry about waterproofing or extreme temperatures. Also, put a fitted sheet or a "mattress bag" on the mattress so that it's not as slick.

On our beds, we put a "egg crate" foam pad on each mattress, and have the mattress and foam inside a waterproof vinyl zippered mattress bag (the type you can get at places like WalMart, KMart or Target). Those bags are generally "rough" surfaced, so things don't slide easily. That has the double advantage of keeping our mattress combination in one nice package, and guaranteeing that if we get a leak, a wet person on the bed, wet dogs on the bed, etc etc etc we won't have to worry about soaking and drying mattresses. When we pop down, the mattress/foam/bag combination stays together (makes the lid tight, but not too bad) so if it's raining or the canvas is wet, our mattresses will stay dry. If DD wants to use a sleeping bag, she can do that, although we still put at least a fitted sheet on.

I must admit, though ... the idea of sewing kids into their sleeping bags for the weekend has a certain appeal ............. :D

Camping Coxes

You know the waffle weave stuff they sell to put under rugs to keep them from slipping?  It's kind of a woven foam.  They also sell it to use as shelf liner.  That would work if you don't want to change sleeping bags.  I've seen it sold at a fabric store on a roll, so that would give you the bigger size you'd need.

We use fabric sleeping bags and don't seem to have that problem.  We also don't have our mattresses covered with plastic, so the fabric on there adds to the friction.  But then again, our kids are older and I'm not concerned about waking up to wet beds in the morning.  Been there, done that!

A cotton fitted sheet worked for me.  My 3 girls share a bunk end and 2 of them have those slippery bags.  Haven't lost either of them yet!   ;)

I do have one that will sometimes wet the bed.  I put one of those vinyl zip-up covers over the mattress and the fitted sheet over that.  She also wears a pull-up when camping ...
