I recently purchased a preowned 96 coleman sunvalley popup.
Any advice on what size battery to use.
I've heard to use a deep cycle marine, but what size,
and are those solar charges ok to use on that type of battery?

Welcome to PUT and congratulations on your new trailer.  My first PU was a 1986 Sun Valley.  We had a lot of good memories in it.  You might want to register as a user, I am sure you will have more questions.

There are 3 standard size deep cycle batteries.  Group 24, 27 and 31.  The bigger the battery the more power you will have and the heavier it will be.  It depends on how long you plan to dry camp as to which size battery you want to get.  You can use a solar power battery charger, but you will need on big enough to charge your battery to replace the power that you use.  The little battery minder type chargers will keep the battery topped off, but not charge it after you use it.  You should also have a regular battery charger too.

Good luck with the PU.:)

Jeff,
Not sure where you live but if there is a Battery Warehouse near by or a store like it they are not only a place to purchase items but they are also a great source of information.  Even though you will receive a lot of opinions of which battery to buy be sure to to get the largest capacity battery you can afford.  A good deep cycle battery will last many years if maintained well.

Enjoy!

Thanks Larry,
It sounds like the deep cycle batteries are pretty reliable. I've got some good resources here in St. Louis, My brother in law is a marine electrician, I'm just doing some homework and getting info before I run out and buy the first one I see.
Jeff!
