I'll be at Blackwoods campground for the week. If you are in the area, stop by and say HI!!

I will have the Bantam Hybrid towed by a Black/Silver Dodge Ram with a soft top cap on the back.

Hi Chasd60!
We cancelled our reservations at Umbagog Lake SP on w/e of july 23rd, made reservations at Blackwoods for that weekend instead, and now have to cancel them due to family commitments!
We thought of "maybe" going to Blackwoods rather than Hermit Island on a long Father's Day weekend, so maybe we will see you there!

Gary,
If you make it up here you can take a look at my hybrid. It has the same basic floorplan as Gene's but it is slightly narrower and lighter than his. That should get your hybrid juices flowing again.:D

Thanks, Charlie!

The "Hybrid juices" are flowing SO much I can make up my mind! Now, it's not just between the Jayco and the Rockwood!!!

Still haven't made up my wife's mind yet as to whether we camp in Acadia or Hermit Island!

Maybe we'll see you, but if not, thanks!

Hi Charlie!
Guess we'll miss you at Blackwoods! Tried to reserve a site for the weekend of 6/17 to 6/19 on line and they appear to be booked up! Really didn't expect THAT this early!
Hermit Island hasn't returned an email and their phone answering machine seems to be full, so we MAY end up staying home!!!

We just got back from Acadia on Thursday.  Absolutely beautiful!!!

We stayed at Mt. Desert Narrows.  It was nice because we had an oceanfront site and no one was around.  I would NEVER go here during peak season.  Waterfront sites are tiny.  Good thing we had 45 of them to ourselves.

I wanted to warn you about the bugs.  The black flies or mayflies, however you refer to them, we HORRIBLE.  We live on a lake and I am used to mosquitos.  Let me tell you these were the worst I have ever seen!  They were much worse inland.  It was impossible to eat outside.  My kids were in tears and my poor dog is covered in bites. The black flies were so bad, I don't recall being bothered by mosquitos.

I hope they will lessen by the time you get there.  Be prepared.

Make sure to visit Schoodic point, which is not on Mt. Desert, but is part of Acadia National Park.  We saw some unbelievable sights here.  It's 20 minutes north of Ellsworth, but definetly worth the ride.

Despite the bugs, it was the most beautiful place we have camped in 15 years of camping.

Enjoy

The black flies should be pretty much gone by then. They are more of a mid spring bug but with all the rain we had, they came out later than usual.

Acadia is only a 3 hour trip for me and I like to stay at Blackwoods CG in the park. It is hard to get a site at Blackwoods unless you reserve early but I guess it can bethat way at most of the CG's up there. The free buses, that serve the entire island, begin on June 23rd this year. It is too bad they didn't begin earlier. It is the best way to travel the island and park. Last August I went for a week and only drove my truck on one day and that was because it rained that day.

I am bringing a big pot to cook some lobsters at the campsite for dinner one of the nights.:D
