Hi,

I recently spent some time and money into updating my 86 rockwood.  I gutted the roof, installed new bedding and canvas.  I also replaced the dome lights and added some which brings me to my question.  The original converter is a 10 amp model which ran one inside dome light, one porch light and a couple of 120 outlets.  I replaced the porch light with an identical new one.  I replaced the one single bulb dome light with two double bulb lights with power ports for future bunk fan/ lights.

While on our first trip the lights would dim when another light was turned on.  Also all the lights went out when more than 3 bulbs were used.   Lights came back on after 5 minutes - no fuses blown.During the rehab I used all new good quality wire and all the connections are good.

I'm thinking of upgrading to a 30 amp converter.  Anyone think this will solve my problem?  Any experience in doing this?  Thanks for any help.

IF you are running on battery power it is normal for the lights to dim when other 12 volt items are turned on.  I don't know why the lights would go off then come back on.:)

I was plugged into 110 power about 20' away and wasn't using any other power.

CAPEd CODger

It's likely that the converter is "old and tired". Some converters are poorly regulated and some are better.
All have some type of large capacitor to "smooth out" the converted house current. These caps "dry-out" over time and will cause the symptoms you described.
I'd say to replace the unit with a newer model, but I don't think you'd need 30 amps. But, if the price is right, go for it.

Best of luck.
