I like the idea of using a drill to raise the popup. It seems from looking at the site that a 24 volt is needed and was just wondering what brands people have bought and are they happy with them

I use a DeWalt 987 18 volt to raise my roof, lower my jacks and raise my BAL Leveler.  It has metal gearing and a torque handle to help you hold onto the drill.  The 987 does a good job.:)

Hi Alastair:

I just checked out Consumer Reports.  They don't list 24 Volt drills.  Highest they go is 18 and 19.2V.  The quick recommendations they have for these big boys are as follows.

Panasonic EY6450GQKW
Bosch Brute Tough 33618
DeWalt DW987K-2
Milwaukee 0622-24
Porter-Cable 9984

But you better get your credit card warmed up.  Prices run from $230.00 up to $275.00.
I have a $125.00 Craftsman that I have to hold with both hands sometimes.

And if I just broke some sort of copyright laws someone please let me know!

The one tlhdoc speaks of, the Dewalt 987, is an "XRP" model and has the metal gearing and the torque to get the job done. The other Dewalt 18v (read cheaper) does not.

I have a Craftsman 24v that has plenty of torque (550 in/#'s) to raise the roof but it never leaves the house. It's heavy and the batteries deplete even when not being used.

Pay less attention to the voltage ratings and more to the torque ratings. Except for the "impact drivers" that is. You'll see very high torque ratings from some of these impact drivers but they won't do for camper use.

Tool King ( www.toolking.com ) has pretty good prices.

All things considered, that is good value.

My PUP is the 2002 Coleman Niagara that my parents bought... they, due to their age, added the electric lift onto it for a $600 premium!  It's convenient, but it uses the PUP's battery, and I still have to crank the stabilizer's by hand!
