Coleman Cable Problems

My family & I are getting back into the pop-up camper game. However, on the first attempt at raising our 1987 Coleman Tara, we had trouble getting the top to raise. The front & rear were coming up and then the front stopped raising. At that point I heard a pop. After inspection of the cabling system from under the trailer, the right front cable is not tight.

I am concerned that the cable has broke or the cable attachment has broken off. If this has happened, is the repair a simple one?? If it is a service center repair, how much could I be looking to spend?

I need some direction to help me troubleshoot this problem.

Does anyone have a diagram of this lifting system??

It sounds to me like a broken cable.  While a dedicated do-it-yourselfer might be able to take on a lift system repair, it would be something I would hand off to a dealer.  I have no idea what that kind of repair would cost.

I have a '88 Coleman Shenandoah and our cable lift assembly broke.  This is something that you definitely want to have a dealer do.  I am a do-it-yourselfer, and I farmed this job to the dealer.  Very pricey though...I had it done and it cost me almost $600!!  Yikes!!

If you are handy you can do it yourself.  If not I would have the dealer do it.  I had 2 cables replaced under warranty, so I don't know what it cost.  You will need a crimping tool of the correct size and you will need to buy the cables from a Fleetwood folding trailer dealer.  Good luck and if you fix it yourself take some pictures and let us know how it comes out.
