Dw and I have basically planned our route for our next 6 to 8 week trip. Leaving around the first week of September.

Heading up to MI to do some camping with friends, then to St. Louis, Branson Missouri, Memphis, Atlanta, Savannah and Charleston and then back home.

If anyone knows of any "Must See's" in the general areas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have a "must-eat-at" suggestion for you. If you like bar-b-cue(pork, beef, sausage etc.) you need to try a place while your in Memphis. We were there last July and loved it. The place is called Jim Neely's Interstate Bar-b-cue.
It is on 3rd Street in south Memphis off of I-55. Just look it up in the phone book-it's there. Being from North Carolina, I know good bar-b-cue, and this was by far the best I've ever had!
Just a suggestion.

P.S. Don't forget to see Graceland! :!

As a former Michigan resident, I'd say the Mackinac Bridge is a definite must see.  There's a great state park, Straits State Park, at the St. Ignance end of the bridge.  If you're into freighter watching, the Soo Locks are cool.  If you go to the "Soo", you gotta eat at The Antler Bar.  The food is good but the atmosphere is a bit...."taxidermied".  They have tons of animals on the walls, ceiling, etc.  Mackinac Island is good but a bit touristy for us.  Been there, done that type of place.

Farther down the state you have Hoffmaster State Park on the west side and Lakeport State Park on the east side.  For the all time best fish dinner in the world, The Old Channel Inn outside of Montague is the place to go.

If you want more info, drop us an e-mail with what you're interested in!

Hope this helps,

Tena

Memphis???   Atlanta???   Ahem....are you purposely avoiding Nashville for the second straight year?  Sigh.  Maybe in a decade or so I'll be among the friends you want to camp with.  ;)

One of my sisters lived in Memphis for 15 years; there are some cool things to do there.  Let me know if you want more info.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

DW is writing them down.

Oh and you need to go a little further south than Savannah to get back to Hannah Park.  We would love to see you guys again too.

A possibility of a side trip to Tampa and the Everglades is on the maybe list.

If so, there will be a stop in Jacksonville, most likley the end of October.

Hmmmm, Charleston and then on home. Does that mean a ride through N. Carolina?:D

Where are you staying in Charleston, Gene? James Island County Park: http://www.ccprc.com/jicp.htm is really nice

Hey Gene,

If you do the maybe run down to the Everglades, you might as well shoot the rest of the way down and hit the Keys for a few days. Long Key SP on mile marker 67.5 is our favorite and just think only 67.5 miles to the southern most tip of the good 'ole USA and Key West. There's also Bahia Honda SP just north of Key West (check out the State Park link at the bottom of my signature).
Miami is a great place to see and it has the best Cuban food in the world (since there's no food in Cuba itself).
If you do get down, it would sure be nice to meet you and the Cuban foods on me.:)

One other thought here if you are a big Elvis fan; you might also consider a side trip to Tupelo.  I'm not sure, but I think you can see his birthplace.

I have heard that Stone Mountain near Atlanta is super. I want to go there sometime myself.

Rock City is pretty neat in Chattanooga, TN.

Fall Creek Falls, near Pikeville, TN is a great sight (IMHO). However, it is a good ways from almost all interstates (about 40 miles).

Another must-eat -- Hyman's Seafood in downtown Charleston, SC.  Crowded, but worth the wait!

I live in Mo, my daughter lives about 20 miles from Branson. I hate Branson. The traffic in the summer tourist season is vicious, bumper to bumper and backed up for miles. Prices on almost everything are high. I like most types of music with country being one of them but to me Branson is loaded with has-been preformers that do not have any commercial value anymore except in Branson. Have you bought a Gatlin Bros or Glen Campbell record lately?
I'm sorry, you may like that type of thing but its not for me.
