Don't know if it was old age or the X 14 but the thread holding the awing to  the plastic tube. That fits in to the rail failed along the whole length. Thread appeared to be cotton which is a strange choice for the use it was put to. Unit is an 01 Coleman

Sun rot. FYI: they use cotton thread because is swells when wet and seals off the holes made by the needle puting the thread through the material. Synthetic threads don't do that and the water weeping though the threads does cause a major mildew problem.

After my second awning failure I learned to remove the awning for the "off season" and keep it in the garage over the winter.

I called around to upholstery shops until I found a guy who was willing to stitch it for me.  It took a short time and I  held the awning as he fed it through his machine.  I had him reinforce the whole length of it, not just the part that was unstitched.  I think he charged me $30 or something.  Cheaper than a new awning!

FYI, the actual "upholstery shops" didn't want to deal with it, but the guy I found was a little independent guy, the kind who appreciate any business and are more flexibile.

$10 later unit was reattached at upholstery shop using a Nylon thread. I have used a seam sealer to cover the holes with hopes that this will stop the water infusion that led to the Mildew which stated this lash up.
