Hi all, I am new to this site but I have already learned so much reading other threads!
We tent camp right now but would like to bump up to a hybrid and looked at the cub model. I think they are made by Thor.
We were pretty impressed and liked the two queen ends and bunk beds. It was very nicely loaded and they offered it at $15000.00. That also included a hitch to stop sway and lighten the load.
We are going to do some traveling in the summers and with three kids and a dog we need something with room.
How do these compare to other hybrids?
Thanks so much for any help you can give. I am so glad I have found this site!

I am not in the market for a hybrid at all as I really love my popup. But I was at the Palomino dealer the other day with my sister and we looked at the cubs and I must say that I was really impressed with them. The layout was great, the workmanship looked very good, and it just seemed really, really nice and comfortable inside. I, however, did not like the price at all. The salesman talked to my sister and she got a quoat and it was 14999 for an 06 16 ft cub with the wdh and all the bells and whistles...and that included the trade in for her 2000 Jayco Heritage popup...seems rather high for that. She didn't like the price either. But she did love that camper. I do not know anything about them, but they sure look good. Good luck.

Wow! That is high!
The one we looked at was a 27 footer before the beds pop out.
Maybe we better jump on it at that price........

Sounds like you made a stop at a dealership on Route 4. I just looked at this brand over the weekend and I thought they weren't too bad. I still think Jayco and K-Z (Coyote) make the better units on the market right now. Hopefully you have made a visit to Colerain RV (for Jayco) and Cincinnati Coleman (for Coyote). Both manufacturers offer a nice floor plan with the front bunk "poping out" and (4) bunk beds in the rear.

ourcampcrew

Yes, I did stop at Tom Rapers!

The one we looked at had a pop out bed on each end and two bunk beds in front of one of the pop outs. So it could be open on both ends. Sleeps 10.

I am trying to talk Dh into going to see Colerainrv this weekend but he really likes the Cub.

I was also thinking of Couch's campers outside of Middletown. Ever checked them out?

We go by Goshen all the time to go camp at Cowen Lake State Park.
Really nice campground for the kids!

From what you desrcibed it looks like the 23BH floor plan. It looks roomy. I don't see a similiar offering from Jayco (Jay Feather) or K-Z (Coyote). I would still make a stop at Colerain and Cincinnati Coleman. Considering the investment you are making you might as well be happy with it. There's another board member, "popupsgt" from the Mason area who has a Jayco and maybe he could provide some comments as well.

I've been by Couch's, but never stopped in.

I haven't camped at Cowan yet, but I've been up there a couple of times. I thought the park was really nice. We're planning to go up there in the next couple of weeks to camp and we already have a spot reserved for the Halloween camp out. Most of the time we go to Stonelick as it's 10 minutes from the house.

Good luck with the purchase and let us know what you get.

ourcampcrew

Yes it is the 23BH. You know your campers!
We have never been able to get a site at Cowan for the Halloween week but are friends with some people who get a cabin every year and we are usually there with the rugrats to trick-or-treat.
We WILL get a site next year!!! It is so neat to see how everyone decorates their site.
Have fun and thanks for the input.

No personal experience, but a fellow in our Tennessee group has a Cub Hybrid, and they really like theirs (at least the last time we spoke).

I like to keep up with what's out there, you just happen to catch me at thr right time. I was at both Colerain and Tom Raper on Saturday.

We missed out on Cowan as well last year, but made sure we got a site this year. I find it hard to believe reservations for the Halloween weekend have to be made back in April!!! We went up last year as some friends were camping out that weekend and I was amazed at what I saw. It's really something to see.

September 23rd & 24th Stonelick will be having "Camper Appreciation Weekend" which is sponsered by Colerain RV. There's a pig roast/potluck dinner plus other activities. Colerain will have several units on display.

I have done website research and I still am leaning toward the Cub.  I'm looking toward the 23TT model (although with 2006 they may be changing model numbers).  I have two kids, one a full-fledged teen and the other right at the door of teenagedom, so the two separate bunks AT THE BACK of the trailer would work well for us.  The bunk beds in some models concern me because of weight requirements (did I mention my kids are really big?).  I like that they'd have their own separate beds and they're not right next to us, who would be up front.  The floor plan seemed very open and spacious when we saw it at the RV show.  Some of the other hybrids I've looked into have smaller bed sizes with the same general floorplan as the Cub, so I'm still dreaming of a Cub.

Hi all,

Buy a Cub!

New here but been following along. Spend most of my time in the "other" forum. Could not pass this one up though. We have a 2004 Cub 236. Love it. Only issue we had was the pin holes found the canvas ends when we went to pick up the Cub. Refused to settle till they were replaced. Dealer wanted to wait till "off season" and repair under warranty. Not when we were 3 weeks from a cross country trip!

IMO you see Cubs mentioned little due to there are not that many warranty issues. Think about the majority of posts you read and it is people having problems. Most posts I read are Jayco warranty issues. And yes we have put ours to the test. 2 adults 3 teenagers. Since May 2004 we have logged 53 nights and over 8200 miles.  We have been in temperature extremes of 110 to high 20's at night. Two tornadoes in one night. Lucky they went on either side of the Cub. Have heard tales of some hybrids leaking.  Had a severe storm last night. Not a drop inside.

The other thing that sold us at the time was the weight. At that time the Cub was the lightest of all hybrids out there.

What type of hitch setup was the dealer trying to sell you?  We were told the friction anti-sway was sufficient. Wrong. I now use a Reese Dual Cam and only have a little sway when the very big RV's come by. Trucks are no longer felt. And you do not have to deal with releasing the anti-sway before backing up. Just back it up. So much easier to hitch up also.

Just saw read this one. I am 6'4" oldest son is 6'1". Bunk size was one of the criteria on our list. Our 236 has two queens which measure larger than other mfg's. 76x80 I think.  Mfg's. seem to have different opinions on what counts as a queen size bunk. I have watched the cables for stretching or coming loose. No problems. And we are not small either. Ceiling height was another. Again the Cub came out on top.

Feel someone walking while sleeping? We did till I made those chocks that fit between the dual wheels. Now when someone goes potty during the night we do not feel it. As far as size the only problem I have is the shower. I will fix that this fall. Replacing the fan  over the shower with a skylight. Relocating the fan over the potty.  But these would be issues with any TT.

I am new to this forum, I typically post on a different one.  I saw this subject and couldn't resist throwing my two cents in.

I purchased a 2005 Cub 236 back in May of this year.  I love the floorplan and what the camper has to offer for the weight/price however I have had a night mare of a time with this thing.  Our slideout has leaked since the first day we have brought this thing home.  The dealer has fixed it three times and they have replaced everything from the seals, adjusted it and put an awning over top of the slideout.  It still leaks.  We are getting ready to try our fourth fix with some new experimental product that Dutchmen is coming out with.  I was told by our dealer that when the manufacturer comes out with a new product they are evidentally having issues with the units.  We have had a sink drain come loose and not notice until the water was leaking all over the floor. We have had water damage done to the dinnette booth from the leaking slideout. We have a piece of the protective covering underneath the camper not covering a 12x12 sqaure of flooring which is now being exposed to water.  The Queen bed end was leaking while traveling down the road so when you got to where you were going your bed was now wet.  The latches for the bed ends now have screws coming out of them, hopefully these don't fail or else I am not going to have a bed left on the camper.  I have a small hole in the canvas over the rear bed.  These are just some of the major things that we have had wrong with the camper.  We also have a list of many minor things that were wrong with this unit that still need to be fixed.  Thank goodness they give you a one year bumper to bumper warranty.

Everyone has a bad unit that is made.  Don't let what I am telling you change your mind on the Aerolite line do however check this thing over completely.  The thing that I am not fond of is I know that the dealer that we purchased from allows the staff to take units off the lot for their own personal use.  I didn't know this until after we purchased from here and see these people camping around us in campers off the lot.  To me this is equal to buying a rental car after it has been used, its not yours so why would you take care of it.

This experience has been a nightmare and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone so make sure you check and double check.

I just came across this and thought I would share with others.

Hi!

We have had a Cub 21 since 2000 and have not had a single problem.  The interior still looks as good as when we picked it up and the exterior has held up well with a little wax.

I would not hesitate to strongly recommend purchasing a Cub.  Ours has been a delight!
