We sold our '90 Skamper 9C and have a Jayco Baja 10Z on order.  Being a bit older these days, we got the AC option.  We had the choice of the Carrier 13,500 btu or 15,000 btu (for $60 more).  I took the bigger unit.  Its since crossed my mind that for $60 difference, everyone would take the 15K.  Since most have the 13.5K, what gives?  Its not too late to change the AC if there is a problem.  Thanks.

We had a 13,500 Coleman on our Viking that was 22' when opened and it would freeze us out.  And that was in Arizona.  I think 15,000 should do it.

1) What is the difference in weight?  If the 15K weighs a lot more, you could find yourself struggling to keep under the GVWR.

2) What's the difference in power?  If the 15K unit draws 15 amps, you won't be able to run anything else if you end up at a campsite with only 15 amp service.

The 13,500Btu Carrier Air V works well at cooling a PU, and it can be powered by a single small Honda EU2000i or Yamaha EF2400iS generator.

The larger 15,000 Btu unit requires a campsite with hookups or a very large single generator, or TWO of the generators mentioned, connected in series.

Thanks for the input.  The 15K is four pounds heavier and has 1 amp greater draw at full load.  Nothing too compelling there.  Guess I will keep it simple and stick with the order.  Funny thing is we will rarely be able to use it.  We normally dry camp.  The package deal was just too good to not take the A/C too.  Should roll off the asembly line on August 26 and be delievered a week later.  Just in time for a shake down before fall vacation at Zion NP and Cedar Breaks NM in October.  Can't wait!

Not always true.  I have a Carrier Air V 13,500 btu AC and the Honda EU2000i will not run it.
