My wife and I have a 2003 Flagstaff 206LTD.  For safety I would like to install a sway control bar.  The ones that I have looked at had large tongue plates.  Large plates do not fit against the tongue very well.  Does any one out there have a suggestion?  I have also considered a WD hitch with anti-sway bars but I am not sure if this would be necessary.  Presently we use a Trailer Guardian on the hitch.  Sway control would give me peace of mind as we navigate the windy highways of New Mexico.

Hi Mike & Kathy,

I picked up a late model Coleman a couple months ago that weighs in at about 2800 lbs. when loaded.  It's much longer than my tow vehicle.  I was concerned about sway control as well.  Going up north here in AZ can mean a change in altitude from 2000 ft. to 7000 ft. in just an hour and a half.

My first trip going up north proved to be slightly hair raising at times.  So after doing a ton of research, I picked up this Curt Mfg. WD Hitch and sway bar off of ebay. See the link below.

We went on a 3000 mile trip up the CA coast through Big Sur, San Francisco and Crescent City and most of the time I didn't even know that the trailer was back there.  The WD Hitch keeps all four wheels of the TV level to the ground.  I was truly impressed with it's performance.  It's rated for a trailer much bigger than mine, but that was OK with me.  I couldn't beat the quality of it at that price.

Hope that helps you out.

Dwayne,
Thank you for the info.  This hitch might be what I need.  Is the hitch easy to install/setup?  And where is the hitch maufactured?  I appreciate your feedback!

Well the LTD series do not have a frame that will accept a WD type hitch. You can put one on, but it can and most likely will damage the trailer tongue.

Anyone who installs hitchs can weld up a front ball attachment to your drawbar. Until Reese came out with the DIY under ball plates several years ago that the way you had to mount it.

Hey Mike,

In my case it was a bit more difficult because I had to remove the jack and relocate it.

But as for the WD hitch, that was a simple bolt on installation.  It took longer to read the instructions and figure them out than it was to put it on the camper!  The sway bar required me to drill four holes into the side of the tongue.  But that was about it.  Basic tools finished the job.

Curt Mfg. was started here in the states about a decade or so ago.  On the link that I sent you is another link to the Curt website that tells their story.  You can email them over there so they can assist you as well.  They were very quick to respond when I wrote them.  I don't know if they'll remember me, but feel free to mention my name.  Tell them I'm the guy that they swapped the 2" ball for.  I believe my contacts name was Fred.

Here is another link to the one I bought:

Again, Coleman/Fleetwood trailer come with a boxed frame that can take a WD type hitch. The Rockwood/Flagstaff LTC/MAC trailers some with a C channel frame that will not stand up to the forces of a WD hitch.
