Dear,  Mr.  and  mrs. crockett (the  brain pausers)  and  to  miller  tyme,
I'll  be  concise  here  with  my  question.  The  vehicles  you  use to tow  your  pop up  and  fold  a  wall  campers  with,  do  the  vehicles  run  on  a  v-6  or  v-8  or  in  line 6?
I  just  came  back  here  and  looked again  at  Miller  tyme's  reply  that  his  86 MXL  weighs  2000.  UHM  MILLER  TYME  IS  THE  TONGUE  WEIGHT  ON  YOURS  200  OR  250  PDS?  Since  the  tongue  is  10(%)  of  the  campers  weight  then  that  10(%)  multuplied  by  200  is  2000.  if  the  tongue  is 250  then  we  have  2500 pds.  Heavier  than  i  was  hopeing  for  BUT  miller  tyme  if  you  are  towing  your  MXL  with  a  v-6  engine  AND  YOU  DO  FINE  then  i  guess  i  can put  my  anxieities/fears  to  bed  with  towing  with  my  old  monster  wagon  and  its  302  v-8.  If  your  vehicles have  v-8s  what  sizes??
What  ever  miller tyme's  camper's  tongue  weight  is  Mine  has  to  be  the  same.  So  what  ever  he  says  so  must  be  mine!  Our  campers  are  on  the  heavier  side  of  class  II  but  they  are  still  class  II  as  is  my  hitch.             THANK  YOU  EVERYBODY!!

I know you didn't ask me, but I just wanted to point out that the tongue weight probably isn't the same on your trailer and Millertymes.  The tongue weight will vary with what is in the camper, where it is located in the camper and what you have on the tongue of the camper.  The more weight located in front of the axle of the trailer, the heavier the tongue weight will be.  Heavy objects located behind the axle will lower the amount of tongue weight.  Do you have a battery(s) and or propane tank(s) on the tongue?  That will also change the tongue weight of the trailer.:)

Miller Tyme

Brian-
As I answered in your other post, I've never weighed my trailer's tongue, or the rig for that matter. My weights are off of my info tag on the side of the rig. I only have the single propane tank, with no provision for dual tanks or a battery.
As thldoc noted, weights will vary, based on whether you have the dual tank set-up, battery, etc. But you are correct--our rigs are quite similiar(probably twins), and I also have a friend who has an '83 MXL, and his rig is identical to mine.

My Explorer has the 4.0 V-6, 4x4, w/ automatic trans. I installed a Class 3 hitch myself(Reese bolt-up model designed for my year Explorer, no hole drilling required.) I have also towed the MXL with an F-150 with a 4.9 Inline-6, 4x4 w/automatic trans.

I think you should be fine with your Country Squire towing the MXL, but I'd go one better and see if you can find a Class 3 hitch for it. I tend to over do it a bit, I just feel more comfortable with the Class 3.

with  me  during  this  period.  My  station  wagon  came  through, I  had  the  world's  worst  vehicle  before  this  wagon. This  wagon  is  the  car  that  its  predessesor  should  have  been  but  refused  to  be,
Once  this  wagon came  through  she  and  I  decided  NOW  a  pop  up!!  I used  to  love  solid  wall  house  trailors  but  I  gave  in  for  the  safer  towing  of  pop  ups.
I  BOUGHT  THE  MXL  FOR  300.00  that o.k.?
All  of  a sudden  in  the  last  few  days  week  and  a  half  something  got  me  spooked  "am  i  doing  the  right  thing?"  "Will  the  camper  and  wagon  do  it  together, I  know  I  can  do  better most  of  the  dealerships  i  went  to  had  to  special  order  even a  class II  for  such  an  old  car,  and  that  would  have  cost  several  hundred  $$  so  a  classIII  was  just  out  of  the  question. Things  do  have  a  habit  of  NOT cooperating  with  me. I  did  the  best  i  could  reassuring  myself "oh  it'll  work"  now  its  time  to  put  it  to  the  test  and  "I'M SPOOKED"! Thanks  to  all  of  you  patient  souls  well  I'm getting  confident, "SHE  HAS  BEEN  CALM  AS  A  FLOWER  THE  WHOLE  TIME!!"     and  as  of  tonight  call  it  a  family  emergency  IN  FLORIDA  has  a  risen,  an 89  year  old  relative  must  be  put  in  a  home.
Do  please  reply  more   you  are  all  wonderful, and  i'd  love  to  know  if  i  paid  an  appropriate  price,  I'm  comfortable  with  it.

For $300, it sounds like an excellent deal, if all the canvas, etc. is in good condition. If not, repairs can be made(see the Fix-It section if you have any Q's.) Back in 2000, I paid $2300 for mine. It was a clean, garage kept unit, used very little(I'm the 3rd owner.) And I've tried to keep it that way, except for storage. I have no garage, so the Pal sits outside year-round in the Wisconsin weather.

Have you checked out the local junkyards for Class 2/3 hitches? Many take the hitches off of junkers, then re-sell them. You may get a good deal from one.  As I said, I prefer the Class 3 hitch, but that's just me(I may up-grade to a larger pop-up in the future, so I'm just preparing my truck for that.). A Class 2 will work just fine with your set-up.

Sorry to hear about the family problems---keep your chin up, things will improve.:)

I towed a 3000 pound trailer with a class II hitch for 3 years, you should be fine. :)

Been out of town camping, so sorry for the late reply.

Our camper is a Palomino, but NOT a hardside model. It is a colt (9.5' box), so not that big. I have never weighed it, but I doubt it weighs more than 1500# loaded.

I have weighed the tongue, however. It weighed around 300# It is heavy, but I sure don't have any problems with sway! I can't change much. I have a big deep cycle battery on the tongue that puts a lot of poundage there.

As for the size of engine question, believe it or not, I tow with a four cylinder! I have a 5 speed transmission and a 4.10 (I think) rear end. The camper and the truck are a pretty good combo, but on steep hills on the interstate, I sometimes just cruise in 4th gear. I get around 16-17mpg towing.
