We have tent camped here twice. The next time will be in our new PU (can't wait). Very nice bath-house, pool, shady sites. Nice facilities all around (playgrounds, laundry, camp store, tv room, game room, full hook-ups). Highly recommend for kids. Very close to major (Water Country USA & Busch Gardens) attractions. One downside is there is a major train track about 50' from the tent sites (further for RV sites). There is a buffer of trees between the tracks and the campground, but there is no mistaking that the tracks are there and well traveled (even at 3am). People in RV's say that they don't hear the train, but I am sure that those in PU's hear them.  They have a web-site //www.anvilcampground.com for those interested in seeing pictures, etc.

We stayed there one weekend and didn't like it as much as we did American Heritage. The noise from the train did bother us and we were on the side next to the highway. The traffice noise and lights from the cars also bothered us. The site that we had wasn't big enough to park the pu and our tv.

Came across this old thread and I figured I'd give everyone an update.
We stayed there in mid November '06 (American Heritage was full), Woodall's gave it good ratings so we packed up the camper and 6 and a half hours later we pulled into Anvil. Nice looking place, very clean and the bathrooms were excellent. After checking in we headed to our site and got the shoehorn out (with 2' on the back side and 1' with the awning out on the other). My son asked if he could explore a liitle and he was gone about 30 seconds. he said," There's train tracks about 30 feet awy from us!" The Train came by 7 times that night! No sleep 4 me that night. Next night the Train only made 4 appearances but some idiot in a class A pulled in at 3AM and Idled for an hour and a half. When I said something to the guy in the morning he said ,"Well what do you want me to do, I had to set up?!" I went to the office to complain and had to get in line with all the other unhappy campers. We were told that something would be done. Nothing was done. All in all I will never stay there again... Bathrooms were nice though.

we're about 45 minutes from anvil, you couldn't pay me to stay there. too much traffic and the train too. we like the KOA's just a little west of there and have a friend that stays at the outdoor world cg (i think that's what it's called)

DW and I spent four days there and we were not impressed.

First site they gave us, I couldn't fully open my awning and if I did, it would be over the next campers sewer line.  Finally got them to give me another site in the middle that was much better.

Not a quiet or restful place with the train tracks on one side and a busy road in the front

Family with 6 kids were tent camping across the street from us.  Their site was really small and close to the tracks.  Kids had to play in the road as there wasn't any room on the site.

Not impressed with the bathrooms.  They were wet and no private changing area.  Used the bathroom in the htt.

Rates are reasonable for being that close to Williamsberg and easy to get to the tourist areas but that is about all I can say on the good side.
