Broken lock - 2000 Coleman Sedona

I just purchased a 2000 Coleman Sedona.  The previous owner lost their key to the door so they decided to break it (outside door/slider).  Well, it obviously no longer works and I was trying to see what I needed to do to fix it.

The complete lock assembly is still in place.  The whole assembly just turns and almost pulls out of the siding but does not.  It doesn't appear that I can get into the siding to remove the whole assembly.

Any one have any advice?  The only thing I could think was to try and drill out the lock and hopefully it would fall apart and I could remove.

Any advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated?

If you have a Coleman/Fleetwood dealer near you maybe you could ask their advice as to how to repair the lock and get at it.

Do you have a stepper door or the one that swings to the side?:)

The lock that is broken is the one that locks the lower portion of the door ( I guess you could call it a half door) so you can lock it while the trailer is closed or while you are away.

Does that door fold down and make the entrance step or swing to the side when open?:)

Swings to the side.

I have the stepper door, so I am not sure if it is the same with your door, but on mine the rivets had to be drilled out to fix the lock mechanism.  Then the door re-riveted back together.:)

I have the exact problem with my 1997. If I find a solution I will post it here. Please do the same.

I agree it looks like you have to remove some of the siding.

That is the only option I can think of as well.  There is just no way to get the old lock removed without popping rivets to get to the back of the lock mechanism.

Still looking for options but this may be something I live with depending on the cost to fix.  Will post the final conclusion when I know what it is.

Thank you!

Thank you!

I drilled out the 5 pop rivets that hold the door jam on, they also hold in the side panel that hold the lock.  Next I removed two screws from the bottom of the panel. This allowed me to pry out the panel enough to get may hand in. It is still tricky. Very tight.

If your is just loose that may be enough to tighten it. The lock is held in with two screws that have nuts on the back.  I already had a pop rivet gun, but you can get one at home depot for around $20.00.  Since I had purchased a new lock I put that in and it works fine.

Good luck
