I am so happy to find this site! I was wondering if any one could give me info on buying a used pop up.  We are looking at one owned by a friend of a friend, they are asking $4000, it's a '97 Flagstaff, air, heat, a queen and a full size bed, stove, toilet, a 'couch' and sleeps 8. I am not completely sure of the length, I believe it is 22' when it is out and the base is larger than any of the others we've looked at. It is very clean, the only damage other than normal wear and tear is from a leak they had when they had not undone a hose before they packed it up (when they first bought it) there is water damage to the floor in the large storage area in the front and it went along the side in front of the door. It is not a big area, about 3 inches out from the door. We are planning on making an offer tomorrow and was just hoping to get some input. We've seen some smaller Clippers that are 2004, and they are asking $3,995 at a retail Rental place. Other than being newer, we like the Flagstaff better. Any input would be greatly appreciated! -Alan and Connie

IMHO, the price seems to be a tad high.......even though the seller is a friend.

Find out the actual model number of that PU, and do a price search on the NADA website. Poke in all the options that will be included to get the best estimate. I did a quick check (not knowing the model number) and came up with the range of $ 3,000 - $ 3,500.

As for a little water damage to the floor, in a PU this is like saying you are only a "little" pregnant. Floor rot does not get better with age...... only replacement can cure it.

The floor and the lift system are two of the most important components in a PU.

I suggest that you go to the forum member's website Tim5055 for just what to look for when purchasing a "Used" PU.

   Good luck.

On the NADA website, don't check anything that comes standard on the PU.  You only need to list the options.  Without seeing the PU it sounds hi to me.  When you say it has a toilet, is it built in or is it a porta potty?  Good luck.:)

in my limited experience I thought it sounded high too. We just bought our p/u recently but we researched like crazy and looked at a bunch of pup-ups. I think it might be a bit expensive. Its the end of the season and they will have to store it somewhere, they might be willing to part with it for cheaper just to get rid of it now. We showed up with cash for ours and told them we'd cleared out our bank account (true) and they had to accept our offer or we had to go home without it, we had no choice as we had no more money and they took our offer. You might find that situation too. good luck.

the Porta Potty is built in. Thanks for your advice, we have offered a price of $3,000, it was a price we felt comfortable with and we believe it is a price that they will go down to or come very close just from the way they talked. We will find out in the next couple of hours. Thanks again for your help!

Well, we are now the owners of the 97 Flagstaff! Thanks so
much for all of your advice!  We were so excited we slept in
it in the driveway the first night!  I can't wait to go out for
our first weekend in a PU! I don't think it will take long for me
to "get over" not having a tent!  -thanks, Connie

Our first trip will be Oct 8, 9, 10 at a Lake of the Ozark state park! I've been
reading previous posts on here and they are a great help to get us prepared for our first outing!
