I just bought a '95 starcraft satellite sunday and have a question about my tow vehicle. I am driving a single cab pick-up, I have a topper for it. Is it legal to install a seat( rear seat from blazer, jeep etc. ) in the bed of the truck with seat belts for the kids? The kids are 5 and 11. I have a sliding window in the truck and will be taking the window out of the topper so they can get cool-warm air, and comunicate with DW and me.

Thanks for your help.

I should think that would be more about the state laws you live in your neck of the woods. Around these parts, at least in the country, I see a lot of kids riding in the back of a pick-up with no shell over the bed ... out in the farming country and they propbably can get away with it;  but it sure scares me!  As for what you have in mind, I would think if the seat & seat belts were really bolted down secure, that has to be light years safer than just riding in the back. Say that you could get by with this set-up with the law, my next concern would be about the TV insurance, making sure that all were covered under the policy.

And, for what it's worth, there is a family I know that has a pick-up truck slide in camper and their kids always ride in the back. Of course, they never travel great distances. With me, I'm more concerned this day & age about the other driver(s). No matter how safe I drive, somebody can come out of no where and plow right into ya! We have been having a big crack-down on drinking drivers around here ... and I'm all for it! You'll be driving down the highway, go over a rise in the road and there will be a gazillion police cars and a line-up of cars waiting to get through; always a couple of cars over to the side with the drivers getting shook down!

Let us know what you find out.
