Took the kids out for our final campout of the season this past weekend.  Met up with AustinBoston and PJay and their boy at Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park in southeastern Minnesota.  Great weather ~ a little chilly, but sunny.  The furnace and electric blanket worked great and I had plenty of propane.

I've been teaching DS how to help set up the trailer and he's getting pretty good.  At some point I thought I gave him the PU keys.  I keep all the trailer keys and the key for the hitch lock on one ring ... they're all on a lanyard that's supposed to hang around my neck during set up.  We got all set up and I asked him for the keys.  He sez you didn't give me the keys.  Uh-oh.

We tore apart the PU and the van looking for them.  We walked the site.  Then we did it all over again ~ twice!  No keys.

I had spares for the PU, so I decided we'd just have to make dinner and forget the keys.  I just didn't have a spare hitch key ~ figured I'd just keep the hitch on the van for the rest of its time!   ;)

Sat down to dinner and I had a 'flash' of trying to get something done and the silly keys being in the way around my neck ... so I took them off.  And set them on top of the PU!!  Sure enough ~ got up on the picnic table for a peak and there they were .... right where I left them.

Apologized to DS and left the keys right where they were til we broke camp Sunday.  I knew they'd be safe there!   :D

LOL that sort of happened to us this trip.  I filled the fresh water holding tank and left the cap on the roof.  It was still there when we popped down on Monday.:)

AustinBoston

Of course, that's never happened to me...never left an FRS radio on the roof while cranking up, either... :swear:

That wasn't really a SPUT, You just put them there for safe keeping ;)

Hello Kelly:

Totally been there, done that.  Although I didn't find it until I popped down.  I'm glad I always have an extra set of keys.

Kelly

Hello Ray ~

Where have you been?    ;)

... and FC, I really like the way you think!   :D

Wow Marcy you know her so well.:)

HersheyGirl

I think that it is a wonderful place to put the keys for safe keeping, I have done that a couple of times myself and it is very safe.  :p :D

SkipP

It is an excellent place for the safekeeping of keys. As long as they aren't the car keys.;)

Yep, that lanyard did the job for ya!:D

Glad you had a good trip.

lushy

Been their, done that.........2 TIMES!! You would think I would have learned the first time  :screwy: The second time I knew exactly where they were after I thought for a minute. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that made that SPUT!  :D

It is a classic SPUT and it took Kelly to bring it to our attention.  When it happened to me, I basically thought I was losing my mind.  I had just gotten there, hadn't gone anywhere except being by the pop up while setting up and all of a sudden, my keys were gone.

This move should be in the SPUT Hall of Fame.

Kelly, I've just been out camping all the time.  Got to get in as much camping time before the season ends here in California.  The non-camping season here starts around December 20th and ends around January 15th, so I'm cramming.

Camping Coxes

When we were in Tahoe DH's ax came up missing.  He loves this little hand ax mostly because he found it in the street, where we suppose it fell of a work truck, and it was like brand new.  He had the sleeve, but not the axe and he just knew our son set it on the big boulder by the entrance of our site and this boy who repeatedly was riding his bike around the loop must have taken it.  He had the whole scenario worked out.  He heard wood being chopped and even jumped on his bike to investigate who was using "his" ax.

A week later we lower the PU to pack up, and there on the roof sits his beloved (but a bit rusty already from the rain we got) ax!  So now when we're missing something, we check the roof!

That just isn't nice...not nice at all...;) :D

The Bayside that we own has a grey water tank that stores underneath the PU and can be retreived by dropping a ramp.  Last week in August when we went to PA, we backed the camper in, lined it up with the curb, balanced and unkooked the van...DD's boyfriend had to physically live the PU to get at the gray tank ;)
Once again...almost did not learn...we tried to do the same thing this week in Forestville...stopped Austin and has DS remove tank before we had to do gymnastics!

Its also a great place to store your level. :)
