I was just wondering if everyone living along the coast is high and dry OR if they are having water problems:confused: .   We are fine in central Pa.  Rick did you get your septic test done?

We're ok here in Morris County NJ. Sick of the rain. As I was about to get out of bed this morning, I was thinking "I wish I were in the pop-up." We really like the sound of rain while camping - hate the mud that accompanies it though  :( .

Tracy, how was your last trip? It rained worse in NJ than it did while we were up in Rochester. Got a flat tire on the way home (on the van). Spare got us to the nearby town of Geneva where we got 2 new tires. Pretty ride up (lots of color compared to northwestern NJ). Ride home was grey and depressing - and that was before the flat tire!

Hey all!

Tracy - I cancelled the septic test, we had gotten over 10 inches of rain the first storm, and it has rained every day since. Back to squishy ground. The Taconic Parkway I take to the new job was closed for 2 days under water, I had to take the back roads and it's been almost an hour and a half each way. Even home it has rained so bad the intersection of Rt. 9 and 84 (exit 13 area) was closed under a few feet of water. The sump pump in the house is doing double duty, and the corner it's in in the basement is really really damp. I can not even think about getting the boat or camper out, and I forgot to move the police car up from the backyard so that's stuck back there too on the little blacktop toy parking area. The plans for these upcoming days off were to winterize the 2 campers and boat and then squeeze everything in the back, but it's just too muddy. I am not complaining though, at least we have power, water, and are able to keep going. Actually, we lost water for a day, and it took a day after for it to run clear. I pray for the Hurricane victims...

Di - what kinda tires did'ja get?? Did Chris get the brakes done?

A little OT, but here goes...

During last weekend's deluge, our pool was about to overflow.  So I hooked up a small sump pump to drain off the excess.  It did a great job, and at the end of Saturday, I unplugged it.  What I SHOULD have done was remove the pump.  Because the end of the hose was lower than the pump, water siphoned out of the pool all night.  I woke up Sunday morning and thought I had a huge leak in the pool, until I saw water still draining out of the end of the hose.  Soooo, the day after a ten-inch rainfall, I end up filling the pool from our water supply!!!!  Doh!!!

We are soggy, but OK.  The basement always leaks and this rain was no exception.
We (yeah I actually got Raymond out) drove to Hamburg PA last Saturday to pick up my BD present (NOT at Cabellas), and went across PA 10...between Parksburg and Honeybrook was horrible, we took I 78 to the NE Ext. home. It was pouring down and the flooding was only going to get worse.

My campsite turned into a pond Friday night.  There was a puddle behind the camper when we got there and later Friday it was up under the PU past the door.  I put plastic down to step on to get in and out of the trailer.  The plastic floated on top of the water and kept most of the water off our shoes.  It didn't rain hard for the rest of the weekend.  It just sort of drizzled most of the time.  We visited my Mom going and coming back home Monday and met dthurk on Saturday.  The rest of the group I was supposed to go with canceled.  The PU is still sitting in the driveway trying to dry up.  Hopefully today I can get it closed.:)

We were at Sampson SP, about halfway up Seneca Lake on the east side.  Nice park, great for biking.  Did an 8 mile loop ride myself, just on roads in the park itself.  This was our first time there.  They have a Navy Museum onsite, but we didn't get to see it, as it was only open from about 10 to 3 and closed for the year as of Sunday last week.  We found that out about 2:30 Sunday afternoon.  Met Tracy and her son John at the Curtiss Museum on Sat.  They were the first people that we had met from the forum and it was certainly a pleasant experience.  Hope to meet more of you as time goes by.

Rain was heavy last Friday.  We had some serious puddles around our camper also, but we were set on a gravel pad that was slightly above grade and drained well.  Puddles were gone by Saturday PM.  It's been raining here since, everything from a light mist to a heavy rain.  We did a wet pop down, then opened up as soon as we arrived home.  There she sits, waiting for dry weather.  The way things are looking at this point, we may have to winter with it popped up.  There's been no flooding in the area that I know of.  Rivers have not risen significantly, so the area here seems to be weathering well.

We stopped at RIT on the way up (on Friday) and only got to the cg in Webster around 9:30pm or so. To our surprise, there was a tent already set up on our site. Didn't want to kick them off, esp in the rain, so we took one of the other available sites. Turned out ok. Grassy site was a bit mushy in spots but for the most part ok. No ponds  ;). Got better as the weekend went on. Lake Ontario was wild on Sat. Lots of waves crashing - reminded me of the Jersey shore.

dthurk - thought of you as we went near Sampson SP on our way from Geneva to Ithaca. It was raining steady at that point and quite gloomy. We passed a couple other SPs on our way to/from Rochester from Ithaca. Nice area. The SPs looked like they were right on the lakes. Would like to go back someday. Our highlight was on Friday we went up rt 89 (I think) along the lake and stopped for gas. Noticed a long line but needed gas so patiently waited. Well, it turned out to be Native American land and there was a special deal on gas for that week ($2.53/gal for prem, $2.35/gal for reg). Because of the flat tire detour to Geneva, we missed getting a refill on the way home.

Gas here dropped to 2.49 on Friday for regular.  We went to a pig roast at the scuba shop today and saw it priced 2.45 on the way home.  I didn't fill the TV when we got home last Monday and I didn't fill the Taurus yesterday, both are at half a tank.  I hope it keeps dropping.:)

Thanks for thinking of us...I think.  We were soaked by Friday eve.  Went into town for pizza after setting up instead of cooking at the site, just had to get somewhere dry.

Presume that you mean it was a Native American gas station.  There are several in the northern Finger Lakes area around Seneca Falls.  We didn't get that far north this trip.  Their prices are lower than anywhere else...no taxes.  Did you see the slot machines?  You have to go through the slot room to get to the restrooms, and the machines always seem to be busy.  My wife is a slot machine junkie.  I try to get her to go to a restroom somewhere else.  Good thing for me they don't have any blackjack tables, not that I've seen up to now.  Actually, the only time we've ever gambled was aboard a cruise ship about 20 years ago.  Lost a total of $40 between the two of us.

dthurk,
I think we lucked out by getting to our site so late Friday night. The rain slowed down quite a bit. Wasn't a problem setting up. No I didn't venture inside the station so I missed the slots. Have only been to Atlantic City once. Not much of a gambler. Would have been fun to see though. No wonder it was so busy.

Reg gas around here is $2.65/gal if we're lucky.

We had pretty steady and heavy rain all day Friday and through Friday night.  I enjoy the sound of rain on the roof, but it wasn't consistent.  Through the night, we'd have heavy rains at times, then slow down or stop briefly.  Then we got the water falling off the trees.  We'd get used to no rain sound at some point, then it would start up again.  The change in noise would wake us all up again.  Not a good sleeping night.  It was over by Saturday, but still a wet weekend.  It would mist and drizzle at various times through the weekend.  Take down was not raining, except everything was still wet.  Had to open up again as soon as we got home.  Has rained periodically since we got home, enough that we're sitll open in the driveway.  I want to clean the canvas and the outside of the camper before we store it.  It didn't help that I had reheasrsals and an orchestra concert this weekend.  Concert weekends are more intense for me than my normal work week.
