Folding in the rain- how do you keep the mattresses dry?

Does anyone have problems keeping the bunk end mattresses dry when folding the pop-up in the rain?  The rainfall plus the wet tenting folded down soaked our pop-up matresses.  Luckly we were not going to a second campground or we would have been sleeping on soaking wet mattresses.  Any ideas on how to fold and keep the beds dry or is this just what happens :( .
Also can anyone stop the rains in the Northeast. If this keeps up I may need  the camper to become a boat.

What we did was buy a couple plastic mattress covers from U Haul--essentially just huge plastic bags. We put both mattresses in them. When we fold the ends of the camper, we try to fold the dryer inside part down on the mattress and keep the wetter outside folded on itself. Both help keep the inside of the camper dryer. On occasion I have hung a large tarp to work under as well. But depending on how hard it is raining and blowing, which direction it is coming from and how popping down goes, you may or may not be entirely successful. The plastic covers should keep the mattresses dry, though.

I keep some very light weight plastic painters drop clothes in the PU.  They are under a dollar each.  If it is raining when we pop down I cover each bunk with a sheet of plastic, tucking it in around the edges.  That way all of the bedding stays dry.  I also turn the bottom of the tenting (the bungy corded edge) inside out so that most water on the tenting stays trapped between the outside of the tenting and not on the plastic covered mattress.:)

The mattresses in our Coleman are fabric on top and plastic on the bottom. Our dealer told us to flip them over when we had to pack up wet. It's not perfect, but it helps a lot. We've had a bit of wetness around the edges, but certainly not enough to spoil the next night's sleep.

I flip my mattresses to vinyl side up.  This really helps a lot.  I also try to get the standing water off the bunk end and tuck them in like Tracy does ~ making sure the wet side is as "up" as possible.[/FONT]

We just got back from a 12 day trip in which it rained 8 of those days. Started while we were leaving the house to go!  ;>    A year or so ago I purchased king size plastic mattress covers from Walmart...the cheapest ones they sell....about $8 or $9 a piece....we keep the bed ends covered with these. I had used plastic bags before and they never seemed to stay where I wanted them.  These covers have elastic on the corners so they stay tucked in all the way around the bed quite well. I put them on before we close down over the top of my sheets and blankets. Once the PU is opened up, we dry them with a towel if they have gotten wet and just shove them down to the bottom of the bedding until we get ready to close up again.  We just pull them up over the bedding before closing down and are all ready for the next trip.   They work great!
