Hi.  I've checked the archives for this info, and I'm still confused.  I want to get DH a drill to use to raise and lower the roof and stabilizers.  I've seen that a 24V is preferred, but a 19.2 will do.  I've also seen that torque is important, but what is the minimum torque numbers I should look for?  I saw some drills on the Sears website that are 19.2, but they don't mention the torque rating, so I need some guidelines from you guys-in-the-know as to what I should look for.  And please remember, cost is an issue, so recommending a $300 model will not help me at all.  I'm thinking more around half as much.  Thanks in advance.

'Bout a month ago Sears was running a sale on the 19.2 drill that included the light, so I bought it.  I think it was $89 or $99.  I believe the torque on that one is 410, and I have it dialed to the max.  I understand the gears are Teflon and replaceable, and that metal is preferable, but I didn't want to spend $300 this time around.  Also, it has a handle to hold onto, and I have read this is very important.

As with anything, there are many different opinions.  Some say this drill will last, other say it won't.  I'm taking the gamble.

Hi, This is what I have, a Dewalt DW006 refurb (had it 3 years and no problems), all the torque you need (power to easily lift a 12 foot top with air), Steel gears, and yes, 24 volts. I cant recomend it any better than that! http://www.toolking.com/Search.aspx?keyword=dw006
This is where I got mine. good luck Larry

I saw this one and it's on sale on a regular basis if I decide to get it.  Thanks.

That link up above goes to hammer drills.  I don't know if there's a regular drill or not that they offer, but I was told not to order either an impact or hammer drill.  It will tear up the lift system.  Maybe when this $100 drill keels over, I'll make the investment in the "real thing."   :)

If you're talking about the 24v DeWalt DW006, yes it is a hammer drill if you set it to hammer drill setting...otherwise it is a very powerful drill...2 speed with metal gearing. I had the same one to raise the roof on my PU, and very sorry that I gave it to the guy that bought the PU from me....should have kept that baby!!
