I am looking for a sleeping bag that is easy to wash in the washing machine without damaging it or taking forever to dry.  I only need one that is rated for 40 degrees- we heat the pop-up if too cold with a Mr. Heater Buddy heater.  I have a Coleman bag that I purchased from Wal-Mart, but is developed a tear on the inside top of the bag and I can no longer run it in the washer.  It also is heavy and takes up alot of space.  I have a flece bag for summer, just need suggestions before I buy my next cold weather bag.

My usual run-of-the-mill sleeping bags have been the nylon with dacron filled and usually sold at Wally-Marts or such type stores, too. These are the mild weather bags and when the weather drops into the 40's, they usually require an additional blanket! For the most part, I either use it totally unzipped as a base and sleep on top of it using a sheet or light blanket, As it gets cooler, I'll sleep on the sheet and use the bag as a comforter. The latest one of this type I picked up in the fall of '01 and think it has been washed a couple of times. I like those larger front loading machines at the laundromats. Now as for drying, I've tried the dryer at a cooler temp setting but think it does a better job of drying on a clothes line outside, on a warm summer's day.

For the fall and early spring time, sometime back, got a warmer bag that I actually use as a sleeping bag. It has a cotton duck outer shell with a flannel lining. Much warmer than the nylon bags. Says it can be machine washed but so far have never washed this one; just don't use it that often. This one came from Sears but they no longer have this particular style bag as a friend wanted one and he checked out what they had. He ended up with one very simular but found it at Cabela's; and it's presently on sale priced at $39.95 - if your interested in any more details I can give a yell at my friend and pass the info on.
