I'm new here and I am looking for some good parks or campgrounds for next spring. I am in the Lafayette, IN area and I am looking for places with great hiking or bicycle trails or just places that have a lot to do becides sitting aroung the camp sight all day. I have been to most of the SP's in Indiana, but would like to check out some in eastern IL or southern MI or Western Oh........well you get the point.

Southeastern Minnesota's Forestville/Mystery Cave SP is nice.  There is an historic village with costumed interpreters, one of the largest caves in Minnesota, and nearby is a very strict old order Amish community.

If you are into caves, Niagara Cave is also in the general area of F/MC SP.

Route warning:  Right now, large sections of US 52 in the area are torn up.  There are sections closed with significant detours.  If you visit, consider this when planning a route to the area.

For a site close enough for a weekend, I would suggest checking out Forest Glen County Preserve (Georgetown, IL), Fowler Park and Praire Creek Parks (just South of Terre Haute), Lincoln Trail State Park (Marshall, IL, a nice hilly bike riding loop and site of a road bike race), and Kickapoo State Park (Danville, IL, also a hilly site for a road bicycle race, also mountain bike trails), and Illini State Park (Marsailles, IL).

Also in Illinois, Starved Rock.  There are several other parks nearby to visit.
Depending on how long of a drive you want to deal with, White Pines Forest SP near Oregon.

In Michigan, I would recommend Warren Dunes.  Just go straight up the Lake Michigan shore.
