Hey all!

I just found a news release that PA is finally going online with their reservations system in 2006. Click here to read it:

The sad thing is that the employees at the call center will be laid off as of Dec 31st. The new reservation place is based out of Maryland. I know the release says they will employ PA residents, but a friend I chat with online spoke to someone at the call center while making PA reservations and they told him they would be laid off as of Dec 31st.  Being a NYS employee myself, I would hate to think that my job was being phased out and someone from Maryland (or even worse, some COMPUTER in Maryland!) would be doing it instead. What do you guys think of this??

They may hire PA residents, but it may not be the same ones that work at the call center. I don't know where the call center is, but if they are not close to Cumberland MD, you can't expect the people to drive long distances to go to a low paying job.:(

Does this mean they'll be tacking on a service fee ($8-$10) like NY? Sure hope they don't change the PA 3pm checkout time. I hate the 11am checkout that NY has. All that means is we have to give up Sun (which cuts the 'weekend' very short) or makes us pay for another day

Hope everyone made their Locust Lake reservations for Sept.

I wasn't aware but that does remind me, I still haven't gotten my confirmation letter yet on my reservation.  I will have to call monday about that.  Thanks.

You can call today, they are open on Saturday.:)

Thanks, I did call today.  My reservation was confirmed but he stated that many people are not getting the confirmation papers.  It appears that they are not going to do reprints either so make sure to catch your reservation number over the phone.

I talked to Linda at the reservations system a little bit ago and she said that indeed the call system closes Dec 31.  She said that 16 jobs will be gone and the sad thing is, is that all of them are help by either the disabled or handicapped.  I asked who one might get ahold of to complain, and she said that she didn't know, but that the governer is the one who signed off on it to allow it to happen.  Thanks again, governer rendell!

Good old Uncle ED.

Now had it been a sports stadium, he would have found a way to come up with the cash to keep it in state.  He was the same way as mayor in philly.  Politics has really ruined him.  Another time when dollars don't make "cents".

Beckie,

I wish I was aware of this news last week, perhaps I could have at least heard his answer during a recent lunch with Mr. Rendell.  I must add our lunch was a celebration for the creation of over 200 jobs slated for the future of Penn. ports due to the state and city of Philadelphia willingness for capital investment in the first Penn. Forestry Distribution center located @ the states port...which will bring high paying jobs to the region along with adding future Mfg. & Distribtuion channels to the state.  After years of set backs this investment came a little late since the state of Maryland identfied they where the next port of call and made the decision to investment in the years past. Today they are the largest Forestry Port in United States and have created over 1000 jobs linked to their paper/forest imports.

I guess it's comes down to the theory one door closes and one opens !

I received my reservation for the Locust Lake Trip in the mail today.  I am glad that I got it.  I always feel better having a paper in hand when I get to the park.  On two  trips someone had setup in our reserved campsite.  On one trip the site had a big sign saying reserved.  It didn't take me long to tell the guy to get.  On another trip someone was on our site and we let them share it for the weekend.  The office was closed early and they had no way of knowing the site was booked.:)

Hey, I finally got mine in the mail also.  Yippee.  Had to make sure we had the paperwork for that site.  Otherwise, where else are we going to eat.  Ha Ha.  Camping can't come soon enough.
