Trina, I think there is a way to put a passwork on any show that has unfavorable content.  We have a passcode we have to put in everytime there is a show whether on a regular station or HBO that isn't suitable for the kids.  It is some sort of security thing,  I bet you have it too, you just have to find out how to implement it.  Call your dish company

Quote from: Camping CoxesWe had DirecTV since they first came to CA.  We got it on E-bay when that was new too for $9.95.  Paul installed it and we loved it.  We got a salesman who came buy at the right time and offered us a better dealf or Dish, so we changed.  Immediately realized we made a mistake and wanted to go back -- but they were going to charge us for the "free" installation if we cancelled it to the tune of $300, plus the installer threw our dish on the ground and broke it!  We owned that dish!!!!!  So we have Dish and I've said as soon as my 1 year contract is up, I'm outta here -- I have the date marked in my datebook!  BUT now I'm used to Dish so I may stay.  But one gripe I have, they give free movie channel previews every so often and you cannot block them out or have them not show.  Which means at, oh, 7:00 PM our time, you're getting the "All Porn All The Time" on your channels that your kids can flip to unaware.  Plus, there's a reason I don't have HBO and Showtime, etc. -- if I don't want my kids seeing some oft hose movies in the theater, I surely don't want it available in my home!!!!

Trina I've had dish for years and love them..so glad we left cable...go to channel 100 or their website..you can put parental block on any of the channels you want. also what I have done is set up the favorite's so when you pull up the guide my comes in green and only my fav's come up I also set one up for the kids so when they bring up their guide it's only Disney, Nick, etc

Oh Lord please give me the strength to refrain from a quirky Restroom joke right now !!!

2 big mistakes there:

1) You did not get the "experience" you were offered; if you cancel and give back everything they gave you, they have to refund your money.  I did this with DirecTV in 2000; they promised "local channels", but neglected to tell me that it was "not all for Sacramento".  I had the full multi-dish install, and had it removed the following week at no cost to me.

2) The installer broke your dish.  They are now liable to restore you to your old setup.

Even with DirecTV, if you have a 1 or 2 year agreement, with a (sometimes huge) penalty for early cancellation... read the fine print:  In California, the penalty is only if you do not return the original ("free") equipment.  If I want to leave DirecTV, all I have to do to not pay the $300 cancellation, is return my "free" TiVo and 2 boxes.  Of course, they are not going to tell you that without you asking...

I just called Dish Network and it was only $10 a month to up our package so we could get DIY.  It was worth it to me.  I want to see our friends make their television debut.  Now I can say "Hey, I know them":D

You quit your job?  Is this a good thing or a bad thing?  It definately frees up more time for camping.:)

We're planning to do the same thing, I think  I'm to just upgrade it for 2 months, so we can see everyone's shows, then get rid of it again.  It's already a stretch for us to even have the darned DirecTV, and I'm starting to regret that we ever got in the first place.

Seems everyone wants to watch TV all the time and never do anything else!  I'm hoping the novelty will wear off soon and we'll get a life again!  I guess it's to be expected when we've never had anything but broadcast tv for the past 15 years, and suddenly we have more channels than we know what to do with!  (Even I've gotten addicted to TLC's "What Not To Wear")

But I still think a viewing party sounds fun!  Maybe when we all get our tapes from them we could plan to just watch them all!

Uh... don't hold your breath!  People watch more and more; it usually doesn't "wear off", but instead they "get addicted".  I believe the national average is 8 hours of TV/day per household...

I agree with you Tracy.  We have 6 tv's in our house and only 4 are hooked up to the "dish" but those 4 tv's are going all the time.  I don't watch much tv but Randy and the boys are terrible.  Now if the internet had to go, I would be in trouble:yikes: :D .
