We will be going to Fort Wilderness as one of our first camping trips next spring.  I'm looking websites to help me plan this trip.  We will be camping in our Pop up.  Thanks for any information you all can share.  I can tell by the knowledge on this site that I'll get a good response.  Thanks.

Welcome to the group!  There is a lot of information here.  I'm not sure really what you're looking for for information.  You don't really ask any quesions in your post.

I've not camped at Fort Wilderness, but I understand it's one of the best campgrounds in the country.  If you're camping at Fort Wilderness, you're going to Disney.  We have spend quite a bit of time in Florida, Orlando and the Disney complex of parks.  I would recommend the book "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2006" by Bob Schlinger.  It's a wealth of information for Disney-goers, and includes different types of touring plans to make best use of your time in each park.  We've been in the parks on our own and with the touring plans, and found that the touring plans work.  We've seen much more with less effort that way.

Anyway, pop up camping is great.  If you have specific questions about your camper or any other aspect of camping, ask away.  Somebody here will have the answer.

If you haven't checked these already, (for general WDW info), you should visit
Disboards.com
Also,
Mousesavers.com
Lot of good info there for all things Disney, including FW.

These were a great help on our past few trips down there.
Most Importantly, HAVE FUN!  :)  :)

I took my mom to Disney last year and we stayed at Fort Wilderness. We loved it and you will too. I do have a few suggestions. Take your bicycles, you can rent them but it is too expensive. They make quick and easy trips to the camp stores, and the entire place is flat  :) so it's easy pedeling. That is something strange to the West Virginia boy.  You will have to have one of the icecream sundaes at the end of Main St and one of the hotdogs at Casey's across the street from the sundae shop.  ;)  One "ride" I would not miss is Soarin at EPCOT. It is truly unbelievable. That being said one thing you should do above all is have fun and don't over plan.

Thanks for the info.  The links are great and I'll be sure to check out that book.  Following a guide will help greatly at the parks.  We plan on spending atleast a day or two just at the campground.

We have camped at Fort Wilderness twice since buying our first PU in July. There are two "loops" that have partial hook-ups that are perfect for pop-ups and tents. Loop 1500 (Cottontail Curl) is where we have stayed both times, and is a short walk away (300 yards) from the "trading post" , where you can purchase souvenirs and supplies (at Disney prices, of course).

Around the trading post, you will find the bike barn (where you can rent bikes, canoes, fishing poles, and golf carts), a swimming pool, video arcade, playground, and an outdoor screen where a Disney movie is shown every night at 7:40 pm, after a campfire sing-a-long.

With three children (ages 9,7,5), we found that being close to those things keeps the little ones busy, without having to travel clear across the campground to get there.

The other partial hook-up loop (I think there are only two) is situated away from this area, and is probably a bit more secluded. The "comfort stations", as they're called, are cleaned daily and include restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. Taking along bicycles is a great idea, as the campground is pretty large. The alternative for traveling throughout the campground is the Disney buses, or golf carts. Traveling in the campground in your vehicle is discouraged.

I am by no means an expert on Fort Wilderness campground, but it is an enjoyable place to go, and an excellent, affordable alternative to staying at a Disney hotel.

Hope this helps.

Here's a good webpage that has some good information too:

We stayed at Ft. Wilderness 2 years ago in our popup.  We got the full hook up site with sewer and cable - we watched tv to find out the weather for the next day, who was going to be opening early the next day (Extra Magic hours) and just general news.  We used the sewer to dump our grey water from the shower and dishes.

The comfort stations are veryyyyy nice; clean and cooled.

We chose a loop that was about halfway from the marina (direct boat ride to Magic Kingdom) to the swimming pool.  We were in loop 500.

Have fun,
Kerri

Thanks everyone.  I'm taking it all in.  I may have to go with a full hookup site with sewer to make dumpnig the gray water easy.  I had planned on getting a partial site to me in more of a secluded area.

Welcome Griff,

We are glad to have you join our community.

We camped at Ft. Wilderness several times when our girls were young. We've been there in trailers, motorhomes and even rented a park model one year.

You can get spoiled when this is one of your first camping experiences. As we all know, Disney does it right and it's no different over at Ft. Wilderness. The kids will have a great time and there were days when ours just wanted to stay right there and skip the Magic Kingdom and the crowds.

This facility gets top ratings in all of the well known campground directories.

Ft. Wilderness is very clean, very safe, and a wonderful family camping experience, Disney style.

We stayed at FW for 2weeks last sept/oct you will love it...... I would sugest taking bikes to get around the park as it is quite large. No cars are allowed to cruise around the park ,Thay rent golf carts but at 44.00 a day,We didnt feel it was worth it and the bikes were much more fun.We stayed in the 200 loop witch is full hook up  right in the middle of everything. The Cable TV was great for the little ones, thay have a disney cartoon only channel thay really enjoyed.  Make sure you go to the outdoor movie /campfire thay have nightly.Take your own smore kits thay sell them but a bit pricy. We had 8 day park hopper tickets  and wish we had spent more time at the Fort  even the kids were a little burnt out by the end of the first week next time we will get a 3 day pass for a week at FW kind slow it down a bit. FW is without a doupt the niceset camp ground we have stayed at and hope to get back there soon .I found Tims site very usefull... Enjoy your trip
