Quote from: griffsmomI just reserved Thursday night for griffsfamily. Sadly for me, it'll only be Dave on Thursday since I won't be able to take Friday off having just started my new job, but mom, griff and I will be there on Friday after I get off work.

Is it October yet??? :sombraro:
New job???  What happened to your cool job as editor?

Thomson West Publishing hired me back in January as an independent contractor through the end of the year.  In July, our division's management team was changed from The Rutter Group in Encino to TW's editorial dept in Ohio--who knows why; it didn't make any sense to me, but whatever.  Because Ohio salaries are far less than California salaries, Thomson West can have editors in Ohio edit the books I've published this year for a lot less money...not that I was making big bucks or anything.  So long story short, they decided not to renew my contract after it expires this December.  I may have an opportunity to co-author a book for TW next year though, so that would be pretty cool, but unfortunately, it's not even close to being enough to keep our creditors happy.

But as my mom says, when God closes a door, He oftens opens a window.  This past Friday, I was offered a position as a legal research attorney for the Orange County Superior Court.  I'll be reviewing motions that attorneys bring before the court and making recommended rulings for the judges.  I start 9/15.  I interviewed with a panel of 7 judges who kept going on about the workload and quick turn-around deadlines, so while I'm excited about my new job, I'm also a little apprehensive about what lies ahead.  I hope it's not as bad as they made it sound.  Since I don't have the luxury of being a stay-at-home mom, I'd like to find a job that I like and where I could stay awhile...

WOW!  Very cool.  This sounds like a great job for you.  I worked at the court as a clerk many years ago and you can't beat the hours or the benefits...

I think you had told me once before that you were a court clerk, but I had forgotten. When I was still litigating cases, rule number 1 was always be extra nice to the clerk--she can make things easy or absolutely brutish for you!

Yes, the benefits are crazy good, and I'm encouraged to hear that the hours may be good as well. I'm excited about this new adventure but also a little bit apprehensive. I hope I haven't gotten in over my head, what with Griffin starting Kindergarten and getting him off to school and myself to work on time, not to mention the workload. The judges really emphasized the workload and "less-than-glamorous" aspects of the job when I was interviewing. I'm hoping it'll all be manageable. :)

PopUpMomma

hey douglas family...we are going to miss you this year.  What will the kids do?  They got along so well.  Hope to see you next year however.
We are still planning on going to tombstone over thanksgiving.  Can't wait.

Quote from: douglasfamily7DK&3kids and all of the other SCCampers,

Unfortunately we are going to have to back out of the Temecula Rally this year  :(

This fall the Douglasfamily7 has become Douglasfamily6 + 1 freshman in college. Andy is having homecoming weekend on October 21,22 so the rest of the clan from AZ is going to head East (Oklahoma State University) instead of West to Temecula this year. Our family has really enjoyed the rally the past few years (it has been the highlight of our camping season). Hopefully we can join you guys again next year if not sooner.

Yes!  Please do - I want to have as few empty spaces as possible.  As it is, they are mostly at the north end of our area away from the noisier south end (who us?)  I will be hand delivering the $$ to Vail Lakes on the 16th of Sept.  My deadline is the 12th so I can collect and clear all checks.  I don't have the money to float so I need those checks in by the 12th for that reason.

Estone

Good for you Lori!!

I know you will be awesome at it.  Sounds like an incredible opportunity.

See you soon.

Pop Up Momma and Allen family are confirmed!  Thank you!:sombraro:

endless horizons

I was wondering if there are any sites left? non-confirmed.  If there are I could send you a money order. Let me know how many there are and I might be able to get them sold for you.
