We are looking at a 2002 Coleman Cottonwood and I am aware of the ABS roof problem with Coleman.  Anyone know if this came with an ABS roof originally?  Also, does anyone have specs for 2002?  I would be interested in knowing the box size and weight.

Thanks
Jodie

I have a 2002 cottonwood and it has the seamed aluminum roof not the one piece ABS  .

The box is 10' with a dry wt of 1645# and tongue wt of 170#. I am really happy with the floor plan which allows for lots of sleeping areas (I bring lots of kids). Just wish I had heat. I did make a 2 shelf-shelving unit for over the galley for storage of the coffee pot, radio and often used supplies I want to keep right in reach. If it helps I paid $3900 :D  with refridge and in very good shape last spring.

Jodie if you send me your email address I will scan the brochure and email it to you.  The trailer came standard with the aluminum roof not an ABS roof.:)

Tracy, I sent you my email.  Thanks so much for the info.

Diane, Yes!  Since I posted, I figured out that the Cottonwood was in the Destiny series and did not have the potentially dreaded ABS roof.  Must say I am quite happy about that as this would be our first PU purchase and it made me nervous.  Hubby and I looked at Coleman trailers many moons ago (when you could still by them new as Coleman) and just loved them.  I managed to find a few pictures of this same model for sale and love the floorplan.  My only concern is the potential lack of storage space.

The one we are looking at has a fridge, furnace, electric brake.  They are asking 3800 which seems reasonable, but I haven't seen it yet.  Cross your fingers for us.

Jodie,

I hope you get it!

I was in SLC for the Olympics and drove around the National Forest areas looking at campgrounds.  Put a battery or two on it and you will have a great time in someo of those campgrounds.

I was working at the Olympics and they put us up at Weber State University - Davis Campus in the dorms.  I was able to drive around and loved some of the areas I saw.  I just wish it were a little closer so I could get into some of those campgrounds.

Good luck.

Fingers are crossed.  When we first started looking, it seemed there were no PUs around for sale.  Now we have a couple good leads.  Leaning towards the Coleman though...

There is a lot of beautiful scenery in this great state.  We are pretty avid outdoor enthusiasts.  Glad you got to check out some of it.  We have been all over the state tent camping.  Even the state parks are phenomenal!  With a PU and the climate offerings in southern Utah, we are looking at a good 8 month camping season.  WOOHOO!

Also, wanted to commend you on your great website.  Have been all over it today printing out the buying used checklist.  I know it takes time to maintain and build a site and you deserve kudos.  Thanks again.  Will keep everyone posted on our quest...

Jodi, I found that when I first started camping with a pop-up I brought way too much stuff and slowly weeded out those things I rarley used (like a blender, what was I thinking) I find that I have more that enough storage space. I use the area under the table for things that I be bringing outside or putting on the shelves I made for the galley, (like plasticware, cups, and plates in clear plastic boxes with lids) once we are at the site. For me it was worth giving up a little storage to get that extra sofa/bed area. It really depends on what suits your needs ;) .  Good luck

When we had our small pop-up, which was an 8' box, I used a drawered sterilite to keep my kitchen stuff in and put it on the only countertop that was available.  That gave me three more drawers and it was easy to pack back up in the back of my van.  Another trick I use now even though I have much more storage is those snap together square blocks made of wire grid (usually sold for dorm room type things I think).  I set those up on the counter and it basically gives me a cupboard system for our canned goods, cereal, etc. so I'm not constantly running to the truck for the food I need for the meals.

Congratulations!  Did you  get the Cottonwood?

utcarsons

Yep!  We got the Cottonwood!  :-() and I am so anxious.  We spent quite a bit more than we had originally planned on, but I like the fact that this trailer was stored outside (had snow on the top when we looked at it) and not a bit of moisture inside since we will have to store it outside.

The Jayco we looked at was a bit of a mess, had been put up wet or got wet inside and the red trim had bled all over the canvas... pink stains on the bunk end canvas and there were lots of little latches, etc. broken.  Don't understand why they wouldn't be fixed if they are trying to sell.  Plus, it reminded me a little too much of the 81 Jayco that someone gave us (and that was a nightmare let me tell you).

Anyway, very very happy.  I wanted a Coleman anyway.   That is what hubby and I were gonna buy a couple years back.

Congrats on the new pop-up :# . I've been very happy with the floorplan and I'm sure you will be also. That extra sofa bed really comes in handy. When I feel cramped, I put the table outside (or leave it home) and it really opens the floor up and I still have that third bed. You'll love doing mods. once you get started (A shelf over the galley is really easy and comes in quite handy). I've had 4 coleman's and never had a moisture problem. Best of luck and good camping :D .

We are very excited.  That shelf is sounding good already.  I would love to see a picture of your setup if you ever take one.  The floorplan is exactly what we wanted actually.  One thing I didn't realize is that there is lots of storage space under the seating for the usual camping supplies and cooking supplies.  Didn't know that space was accessible so easily.  I just assumed I was limited to the areas marked "storage" on the floorplans.  Big difference.  I am guessing the dinette will be set up as a bed most of the time.  Nice spot for the kiddos (next to the heater).

On the next decent day I will get'er popped up and take a photo of the current shelves. The first shelf i made was very simple. I cut a 4" square of a 2X4 and drilled a hole just large enough to fit over top of the legs on the galley when flipped over then glued and nailed (with finishing nails) a 1x8" board on top then sanded, stained, and polyurithaned (spelling?). The hole ended up a hair too large so I wrapped good old duct tape around the end of the leg to make it snug. It was very easy to make and simply slipped off and on for break down and set up. This served me well until I saw someone elses 2 shelf unit that breaks down very easily for storage, but this is much more difficult to describe :eyecrazy:  than it is to make. Once you see a photo it will seem obvious and simple.
