We have been visiting, but not camping. It is one of the places we hope to visit this year in the camper.

Due to a death in the family, we were unable to go there this weekend, but we hope to go in the next few weeks. This warm weather is just beautiful!

Sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully we will be ready to roll soon, because this nice weather is driving me crazy!! Keep me informed of your plans for Middle Creek.

Weezy,
We went by Middle Creek CG Sunday and I spoke with Susan.  She told me of your loss and I wanted to pass along our sympathies to you and your family.

We hope your return trip is a safe one.

ColemanCampingFamily,

I think we will be at Paradise Lake the week of May 16th. The TV gets a checkup on the 15th so can't make the Monday date.  We are scheduled to return to Goose Point COE at Philpott Lake on the 21st - 25th then on to Smith Mt SP for Memorial weekend.

Perhaps our paths will cross sometime.

Yes, Susan said you visited. I appreciate the well wishes. it has been a rough week or so. My mother in law was hit by a car and killed by a drunk driver. It was a huge shock. We are just now returning to our "normal" lives.

I am going to try to camp during Spring break during the week of April 17th. Maybe Tuesday- Thursday. We'll see how the weather is, and if the burn bans are lifted. I just can't camp without a campfire!  :)

I have been doing a lot of mods to my Starcraft lately, and I'm eager to try them out! I want to take some pictures soon to show what we've done! GemmySam, thanks for the GoosePoint link. It was neat to see ACTUAL pictures of each campsite. I would love to go there sometime this summer. It looks awesome!

Is this the campground that was once called "the campground at Natural Bridge" that is on the James River?

Sherry,

Middle Creek CG and "The CG at Natural Bridge" are 2 different cg's.

MC is near Buchanan - Arcadia and on Middle Creek Rd.

The CG @ NB is near NB then east on route 130 then south across the James River at Greenlee. Turn left on James River Rd and follow to cg. <2 miles and on the south side of the river.

 Hope this helps.

I was thinking of SMSP for Memorial weekend as well. Our first trip out this year will be April 22nd. Thinking of Middle Creek for that one, or Otter Creek.

Weezy...OT a bit here, but I noticed in an old post that you have been to Montebello CG and had a good experience. We have reservations for Memorial Day weekend!! Exactly how bad is the "mountainous" drive? Our PUP is very light, but I don't want to have problems (4 cyl vehicle).

We were supposed to go camping this weekend but the weather made me cancel our reservations at Wildwood CG. Perhaps we can get to Middle Creek CG in two weeks.

Hey there! We loved Montebello, but the mountain was a bear. But, if you get on the parkway, you can hop off near the campground  and the climb isn't as steep. (This is what I heard). Check mapquest. I spent Tuesday and Wednesday at Middle Creek with my kids. We had an o.k. time, just a Murphy's Law kind of adventure, if you know what I mean. I think the idea of camping with a four and six year old alone was better in theory than reality. Setting up and breaking camp alone was hard with the kids. My daughter was especially whiney (too many bugs) and my son was slightly sick with alergy type stuff. I probably won't try this again alone for a while! My friend's two boys, also four and six hung out with us for many hours, and while I love these kids, I was exhausted watching after four kids for two days. Middle Creek is coming along nicely. They are currently renovating the bath houses and doing excavations on the hillside that was logged years ago. It is not perfect now, but it really has a lot of potential. I hope that those who do try it out this year will realize how far it has come in a short time, and how much improvement will be happening in the future. I hope our paths will cross sometime soon. Keep me posted on your plans!

I went to the campground today...OUCH it looks like a trailer park.  A bunch of dumpy trailer campers from 1940's all on blocks trash everywhere.  I think I would just assume stay in a city park on the bench.  I went to the store but it was closed I was hoping that I had the wrong place.  I was very disappointed because I was looking forward to having aplace to go camping so close to home(Roanoke).  Im sorry but I would stay away from here for now.

GemmySan

TonyM,
We will be at Goose Point May 7th - May 12th...60mi south of Roanoke.
Stop by C18 if you are down that way.

Tony,
Yes, the campground is far from being perfect. They bought it a few months ago and have already dumped $30,000 + into renovations. If you could have seen it months ago, then you would see my point. As far as the older trailers go, these people are ones who had yearly contracts with the former owner. My friends are in the process of having some of these folks either clean up or leave. But they can't just exactly boot these people out of their seasonal sites because they have older campers. I am sorry that you had such a bad impression. As I have said before, the campground does need a lot of work, and will for some time to come. I think that it will improve over the next few months. I hope that maybe you'll give it another chance sometime!

I was simply shocked because you gave the impression of this decent campground when it really looks like a shanty town in Africa.  Im sorry but this is the way it is now....If I was you I would not tell anyone about it until it is the way you want people to see it.  I want to make sure that no-one here makes plans to go until they know the facts about it or anywhere else for that matter.  If I had loaded my two kids and wife up for a few days at a camp ground and got what I saw I would have been furious with you.  Let me tell you they have about 2 years worth of clean up and another 150,000 in work before I will take may family there.  If it was a couple of buddys wanting to get drunk and fish or hunt then maybe it wouldn't be so bad to fall over the waste high trash and junked cars.  The campers that you so nicely said were, "seasonal" had not moved in 20 years.  They are permanent.  I feel bad to say this but after you wrote so many nice things about it I was very disappointed.
