Here's a blueberry/pear cobbler I fixed Saturday evening. The origins of this recipe were a cobbler show and do for a Boy Scout sponsoring church. We did 10 Dutch ones and then had some blueberry pie filling and diced pears left over. We saved it for last and it completely disappeared.

Blueberry/Pear Cobbler

2 cans Blueberry pie filling
3 can diced pears or dice up 3 cans per halves
1 box white or yellow cake mix
Butter
Brown sugar - optional

Put the blueberry pie filling into a 12" Dutch oven (we lined it with foil for easy cleaning) and add the pears on top. Dump the cake mix on top and smooth out. Top with pats of butter and or brown sugar. We prefer no brown sugar as it's pretty sweet, in more ways than one. The pears help cut the sweetness of the pie filling.

I cooked this at our Mojave Narrows and it was gone in no time.

Enjoy,

Sounds good.  I did this with fruit cocktail with my Royal Ragers boys on the last campout along with vanilla ice cream.  They slept good after the sugar rush wore off.  I'll have to try blueberry or even blackberry.  The pears sound good too.

I can verify it's tastiness.  I had some at Mojave and when I went back for seconds there wasn't even enough left in DO to lick clean.

I've heard/seen similar recipes, and I've always wondered: do you mix up the cake mix, or do you just dump it in dry????

Just pour on the dry mix on top of the fruit, and spread it evenly.  Don't mix anything...

I also had some at the Mojave and this is a great reciepe, it was gone fast. You have to eat it hot and throw on some vanilla icecream, the Bomb!!!!!

This sounds really good, I love cobbler.

What are the cooking times, etc.?

gager2002

Cooking times will depend on the size of DO.  I use a 14", with pre heating already done, I cook with 14 coals on top and 12-14 on bottom, for about 45 minutes.  Try not to open unless you really have too.  It will loose heat faster that a regular oven because you open the top (heat rises fast) rather than a front door on a oven.  As my coals have burnt over 1/2 way, I replace it with a new one.  Also continue to turn the oven 1/4" about every 8-12 minutes, just in case of hot spots.

Geeze

A co-worker told me he has a great cobbler recipie that's always a hit. He puts a box of cake mix (yellow or white) in his dutch oven, adds a can of fruit, usually peaches or apples and pours a can of 7up soda over the top. He says not to mix it up just dump it in and bake it. I'm going to try it next time out. It sounds simple and easy. :#
