OC Campers

glad to hear you are still going to be able to make the trip.  This happened to us once  but our van wasn't so lucky.  It was out of commission for 9 weeks:yikes: .  We missed the whole summer campng season (we were supposed to leave the next day for a 10 day long trip too)

Hi gang.
We are back! I got a little lost on the way back but it only took me an extra ten minutes to get turned around. It took 4 hours to get home but traffic wasn't bad until I got to the 5 / 14 interchange.
We had a good time, wish I had Trina with us so she could do some of the driving.
Thanks to everyone for the potluck breakfast and for just hanging out at the campfire.
Next big trip for us is Shaver lake then Pismo!

 See you all soon!

Another great weekend to add to the memory book ... sigh!  :)

Sorry I didn't get to say good-bye to many of you, but I had a tradition to uphold, you know -- being the first out!  Made it home & was unpacked by 11:00.  Not too shabby!  Thanks, Brian, for helping me hitch up.  It's help from guys like you that make my time so enjoyable.

Lisa, I'll be saying a little prayer for you & Riley this week.  Drugs ARE a good thing!

Guajome is a nice little campground.  I'd be up to doing it again, especially when it's cooler!

It was a great weekend at the Oceanside Campout. We learned all kinds of new camping tricks from all of our new found friends. I learned 85 different varieties of poker :D

The campground was nicely laid out and not too big. It was a little buggy but we really felt like we were out in the country. In fact...Doofus felt so "Out in the country" that he decided to try to go back to the wild. I've had that crazy parrot for almost 9 years and he has always been afraid to fly, so I've never clipped his wings. He loves going camping and he gets a little over the top excited when we are setting up and tearing down.

He always goes on long hikes with us and has never even shown the slightest interest in flying. In fact, if we put him down, he panics and grabs on to our clothes with a death grip. Well......we started tearing down and he was flying around the campsite, on top of the PU & the car (like he always does). All of a sudden, he decided it was time to try out his wings. He took off like a rocket across the campgrounds and into the woods. Thankfully, Lisa saw which direction that he went.

The "Bird hunt" was on. There must have been 20 people walking around the campgrounds shouting, "Here Doofus". Finally, the numbers started dwindling as the search appeared hopeless and people had to be on their way.

Some nice people were in a campsite close to where Doofus was last seen and the people volunteered to take his cage & food and watch to see if he came back to eat. They were staying for a few more days and that appeared to be our last hope.

As we were exchanging phone numbers, we heard a familiar chirp from a bush about 20 feet away. Carolyn walked over and there he was. He was sitting in that bush the entire time, just watching everybody looking for him.

Anyway, in about an hour, Doofus will get his first wing clipping.

Another big thanks to Lisa for spotting where he went and a big thanks to everyone that helped in the search.

YAH!  DOOFUS!

Oh, my!  Thank goodness Doofus was found!  That little nut!!!  We were all so worried!

Give him a big peck on the beak from us Boothes, please!  And, tell him never to scare us all like that again!

Bob!  Did you see and hear me yelling at you as I passed you and you got on the freeway the wrong way?  I worried all day until I saw this.  I'm thankful it was only 10 minutes out of your way!  We're all so glad you could make it...even IF Brian DID figure it out!!!

He got a peck on the beak, bop on the head and now he's grounded :p

It'll be funny to see him try to fly and go "THUNK" on the floor :eyecrazy: ....We'll just laugh & say, "Neener...Neener".

Thank you again Lisa. If it wasn't for your sharp eye, I don't know if we would have found him. When he flew off, we weren't sure which way he went. We just heard a squawk and a flutter of wings. We expected to see him on the kayak, in back of the PU. When he was no where around, we were really shocked. When you said you saw him fly, "Thata-way". We could hardly believe it.

He has no navigational skills, so he doesn't know how to fly anything but straight line. He was exactly where you said you saw him fly. 20 people (including both of us) walked right past him and didn't see him. He is/was a camouflage specialist :p

Thanks everyone for joining us this weekend!  It was a lot of fun and I'm glad the arrangement of the sites worked out so well!  I'd love to do it again - at a cooler and "less buggy" time of year!  I "never" get bug bites.  I'm covered head to toe!  (Yes, Miss Dee...I should've used the Skin So Soft!)  We were there in late February and it was just perfect...we'll keep that in mind for next year.

Laura - we held up tradition and were the second ones out!  We saw you drive past, but weren't dressed.  Glad you made it home safely!

Boothes - YEAH!  After wondering if we'd ever camp w/you again - it worked out beautifully!

Bob - GET A CELL PHONE!  (Just kidding - we'll just have to remember radios next time!)

Sue and Dave - SO glad your daughter set you straight and you made it afterall.

Griffs - Let me be the first to give Dave a big ol' shout out for taking a bunch o' money from my hubby!  Lori - watch out for trains AND strollers - and thanks to you for making my kids so happy in the ocean!

Moose and Paula - you MUST market the jelly - you'll be RICH!!!  Thanks for always sharing!

Viking(s) - Camping would NEVER be the same w/out you - we're so glad it all worked out and THANKS for the cool "buzz" Friday night!

Wavery - Welcome to the club!  We are so glad to have met you both and Doofus!

Dee - hey babe!  See ya at Lopez, if not sooner...should we bring rope to tie the kids to the trees?  Hey - we'll save space and just tie up Kevin and Zach w/DS cables!  Hope we were a nice diversion from all of the stress you've been combating - we remain just a phone call away!

The RV show is on our TiVo officially - thanks for reminding us Brian.  Okay...9 more school days - thanks to this weekend, I can face them w/a smile!:p

We are glad you found him- it wouldn't be the same camping without him. Just curious if you are clipping his wing in the closet?:yikes:

I am just so glad Griffin and I were sitting there on that bench at that exact time.  We had been there for about 30 minutes, talking (Oh, Lori, he is a kick!), and pointing out butterflies and birds (we saw a cool blue jay).  Then, it was like "Oh, look at that parrot!".  We relished the thought of just seeing a beautiful parrot fly by for a couple of seconds....then it hit me "Where's Doofus?"

We Sccampers take care of each other!  Just glad it ended very well!

Lisa

Thanks to Griffin too. Tell him that we got Doofus back with......"All his guts attached" :p

What a great kid. It was probably his imagination that saved the day. It's just so much fun to sit there and listen to his stories that Lisa wouldn't have been there if it wasn't for him.

I can't wait to bring my grandkids to meet the "Scamper Kids". They are all a great bunch of good kids that are all a lot of fun to be around :D .

IN THE CLOSET BABY!!
