Haven't found it, and maybe you've done it before - but I'm looking for everyone's Top 10 List of their favorite local places to camp.  And any inside tips on those locations!

So far.....my favorite spot is Pt Mugu SP.

It is low on amenities but high on ambiance :p

There are no showers, no hook-ups, only portable toilets but they have been clean every time that I've been there.

The spaces are out in the open with no trees and you just line up along the road in marked spots. They do have fire-rings. You are camped about 100ft off of the water so the surf is quite loud at night. You are also about 50' from the highway but there's not much traffic at night except for the occasional big-rig.

I love being able to look out my camper window and see the dolphins swimming and the sun go down on the ocean. I also love sleeping to the sound of the surf. Rock collecting is good and beach walks are spectacular.

 4.  Campland at the Bay in San Diego
 5.  Pismo Beach - (Not really SoCal but still top 5)

I pretty much concur with what everyone else has posted, but I would just add that it isn't so much the place as the people with whom you camp.  Especially if they're SCCampers. :sombraro:

Hi all,

We are going to Doheny SB next month.  I know this is a bizarre question, but are the bathrooms clean there and do they have "lids" on them? Not just those cold, metal bowls???  :(

I'm kind of picky on where I go, no pun intended.  (Well, maybe a little).

Estone

Also, what can anyone tell me about Malibu?  Anyone been to Big Sur?

We're planning a trip to those places, then up to the Bay area and finish off with Pismo this summer.:tent:

Thanks.

Doheney SB has flush toilets, showers and the bathrooms are clean. We camped there in January for the SoCal Beach DOG. Nice campground. No hookups, but water and dump station there. You also have to like trains as the coast route is near by. Not as many trains as Mojave Narrows though.
