Attention all you history buffs!!!

On Labor Day weekend, the Ye Olde Lebanon Towne Militia (of which my family are members) will be hosting a Revolutionary War reenactment of the 225th Annivery of the Battle of Groton Heights and the Burning of New London.  It was one of the few major battles fought in Connecticut.  We anticipate having close to 1,000 reenactors participate in this event.  There is (and will continue be) more information available at //www.lebanonmilitia.com

As of now, I do not have any information about campgrounds in the area, but I intend to see what I can find out.  If anyone else is familiar with this area (Groton/New London, CT), please feel free to jump in here!!   :D

On a more personal note, as far as we know right now, the plan is for DH and I to renew our vows that weekend (most likely on Sunday) as part of the weekend's planned events!!

We look forward to meeting some of our future friends at this event (if not sooner).

Congratulations on the wedding vow renewal.  :#   That's wonderful.  Is this in celebration of a special anniversary?

Global Mom

Well Dave, I'd like to think every anniversary is special  ;)   But, no ... we will be married 17 years this Labor Day weekend.  When the Militia found out that our anniversary is the same weekend as the reenactment, someone mentioned that they had 18th century vows (she and her DH had renewed their vows a few years back) and that it would be cool to renew our vows at the 225th.

That's really wonderful for you two.  DW and I are involved in a marriage ministry of sorts.  We take part in a program that helps people with troubled marriages renew their relationships and continue. Being a part of this can go all the way from rewarding to terrifying.  We have been married 27 years and celebrated our 25th by renewing our vows and buying each other new rings.  Somehow, it seemed the original ones had shrunk.  We tried to have them enlarged, but it didn't work too well.

It really touches my heart to see committed couples in marriage.  I hope you have a rewarding experience.

If your area is like our area (with Antietam, Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry, etc.), if one wants a campsite during a re-enactment, they better reserve now.

There wasn't a campsite to be found during the last few anniversary events at Antietam (15 mins from our house).
