My son wants thinks we should try out our bug out gear by roughing it for weekend, using only what we carry on our backs.

The thought makes me cringe....but he is right....we should go for a test run....

Anyone know of any walk-in primative trails or camping area in & around Berks county or anywhere in central & south eastern PA?

Who wants to take odds on my survival??????

Try the Appalachian Trail. You can access it up in Hamburg at the Hamburg reservoir. From the parking area to actual trail is about 1/2 mile. Then you can hike in either direction. On the trail near the parking trail is a shelter you can use to sleep or pitch your tent. I was there about 10 years ago. Best to pickup a map. It is section 4 in Pennsylvania.

Debbie, why in the world would you want to do that?  Isn't that what you got your popup/a-liner for?  So you wouldn't have to do that anymore?  Have fun if you do do it, and make sure your kid goes along and carries most of the stuff.  It was his bright idea anyway.  LOL!

ahhhh...there's nothing like a backpacking trip to find out what real peace and quiet is!   :>      I agree...try the AT!

Well Becki- this is for different reasons that I would even consider doing it (not my idea of fun) it would only be so that we could test out the "bug out" emer survival kits that we have assembled in case of a Crisis of some sort in this ever changing world in which we live....

And yes he is going....no doubt about it :)

If we have to "bug out", I am taking my camper, and the Moose, which can double as a camper if necessary.  Good luck and have fun.

A lot of the PA SP's have primitive area's. Check them out  here.
