I just received my competition handbook for our county fair that's held in July. This will be the third season I've entered things into competition. The first year, I won two honorable mentions and a $50.00 special prize for quilts I made and a third place for my pickled green tomatoes. Last year, I won two second place ribbons for quilts that I made. I've started working on the quilt I'll be entering this year. So far, so good, and I'm hopeful it will end up with a pretty-colored ribbon on it as well.

But I have to say, ribbons aside, making things to enter in our county fair just makes me happy. As cool as it is to see a ribbon hanging off something you've entered, there's a certain joy and feeling of satisfaction to just seeing things that you've made with your own hands on display at the Fair. My 5 y/o DS especially loves to see our quilts hanging up at the fair. He lets the whole world know that they're ours! :J

Does anyone else out there like entering things in your county fair? :)

I don't have the kind of intestinal fortitude that you have.  I enjoy doing cross-stitch, and give them away regularly as gifts, but to have someone pass judgement on them is ... scary!  I'll root for you, Lori, and maybe some of your hutzpah will rub off on me!

My 14yo daughter wants to enter her horse in our local 4H fair this year. We were planning on taking the pop-up and staying in it since someone has to stay with the horse. She is not expecting to win anything, but the experience will be good for her.

Dee, we live in Cumberland but her 4H club is in Gloucester so she will be going with her club to Gloucester. This is new for her. We bought her a Arabian mare last year.

My sister has entered several stained glass pieces in the Mid-South Fair and usually won at least one ribbon.  I grew up in Iowa and was a 4-H'er for 8 years so have many, many memories of county fair and the excitement of seeing how my projects did.  Good luck, Lori!

Boy, this brings back memories.  When I was in High School, I used to take our dog to 4-H Dog Obedience Training.  We would all enter the county fairs in the area.  In our 3rd year, Sheeba and I took first place in our county fair, making us eligible for the State Fair.  That was really a wonderful experience, showing our dog in State Fair.  I haven't done anything with County Fair since, except be an interested observer.

We had the Maricopa County Fair back in AZ.  I'll never forget these two country music DJ's Tim & Willy,  they had a pig they would enter into the pig races every year named "Hammy Fay Bacon".   LOL  It still cracks me up

This year I'll be entering Moose's Jalapeno Jam in the Ventura Co. Fair. Never done this before, but we'll see what happens.

I haven't entered anything in a county fair for a long time.  I did take my horse to the fair with 4H one year.  I hated having him locked up in a stall all week long.  At home he could come and go in and out of the barn as he wished.:)
