I am going to buy a new 4 way lug wrench today or tomorrow. My pup is still in storage. 97 Coleman Niagara. Anybody know what size lug nuts is on it?

I don't know about the 97, but my 1999 has 3/4 inch lug nuts.  Bigger than those on my TV.:)

Thanks Doc...I'll make sure the one I get has 3/4 on it. Hopefully, if thats not my size, one the the others will be.

Buzz, while I do always carry a 4 way, I also suggest you pick up an inexpensive clicker torque wrench and a 3/4" socket.  I keep one behind my refrigerator vent door and always torque the lug nuts before towing.

I think I picked my torque wrench up at Harbor Freight for under $20.

Tim....I have a 1/2" dr. Harbor Freight torque wrench. I wanted a 4 way just for the road side tire change. I carry a Sears "trolley" jack, its a small floor jack, 2 1/4 ton cap...w/ carrying case, weighs 29 lbs. As my pup ages more things can go wrong. I want to be as ready as possible.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Both my PU and HTT have 13/16" lugnuts. On the PU I replaced the standard lugnuts with chrome acorn nuts for a dress-up. The studs were 1/2"-20 threads, so they were the same as my Explorer.

You're saying 13/16 is not the original size of your lug nuts and that you changed them to match your TV?

ScoobyDoo

Make sure your lug wrech will fit the nuts that hold the spare on.

No, both the originals and the replacements were 13/16". I just noted the stud size if anybody else was curious. The TV's lugnuts were 3/4".

I have a 4 way, but I can not get my spare tire off with it.  I have to use a deep socket to get into the lug nuts on the spare tire.  I have 2 threaded rods that come out through 2 of the lug holes in the rim of the wheel.  A standard socket or a 4 way are not deep enough to go over the end of the threaded rod to reach the lug nuts.  :)

I have a 24" 1/2 breaker bar style wrench from Craftsman in each of the vehicles.  This has a leverage advantage over a 4 way, plus the fact that I can stand on it to break things loose if necessary.  I also have a short (3 or 4 inch) extension on it as well.

Just a thought.

Thanks Wynot. Harbor Freight sells a 24" breakover bar for $9.99 if ya catch um on sale. Made in the Orient however.

The extension will not help you get the spare tire off.  A regular socket will not fit down over the threaded  rod that holds the spare tire in place.:)
