He's on a Cruise, probably trying to talk the Captain of the cruise ship into letting him take the wheel for the rest of the trip.   LOL

PITPOP27

OH YEAH!  The cruise!  Well  hopefully he'll see these when he gets back!

Camping Coxes

Oh, great, another project for my DH!  He fights with the thermostat all the time.  A digital one would be sooooo much nicer and easier for everyone.  Was it difficult?  He's replaced the one in our house, so is it basically the same thing?

Yup.  Buy one at Home Depot/Lowes/etc.  Remove camper one, plug wires into new digital*, mount it.  Done.

*Be sure you get one that is compatible with gas heat - as it in turns off the gas, then after a couple minutes turns off the blower.

well, I'll start off by saying yes, it was simple, but we haven't used it yet!  We'll see if everything works out this weekend while camping and I'll let you know :D

Your mod looks great. I like the Velcro touch.

Yep....just got back from the cruise......I gotta say....it was better than camping. OH, SO MUCH food :eyecrazy:  and so little time :D .

We are looking forward to Doheny next weekend though :p .

Thanks Wayne, just spent our first weekend at Leo Carillo, got back today.  Great on the quick trip factor!  Good Bday weekend for me!

i noticed in your pics that you replaced the old thermostat with a digital one.  i'm just wondering if it has worked well for you.
i've spent countless hours trying to calibrate and get our old one to work, and it just wont.  it either doesnt turn on the furnace when you want it to.  or it comes on and wont shut off and then leaves you sleeping in a sauna.

i was thinking of replacing with a digital one, but wasnt sure if it would work.

Dean I noticed that you are a newbie!!! just wanted to welcome you aboard. Replacing the thermostat is a favorite mod around here. The most popular thermostat is the LUX100 fits right in the original position. If you want to go a step further, you can install the LUX500 which is a programmable thermostat so you can set the off and on times. Ace hardware also sells re-bradge units under there name.
Do a search here under thermostats and you will find a lot of info

Gotta tell you, it was so simple to put in we thought, man, hope this works!  Are old one never kept the temperature we wanted during the night.

The Honeywell digital thermostat worked WONDERFULLY! Worth every bit the $25 from Home Depot!

Hey, I want to do that to!
However...
The recess that my 'stat fits in is vertically oriented, not horizontal like most others. Anyone know where I could get a replacement 'recess' box? It would have to be bigger than my current one so I can cover the hole when mounted horizontally.

I hate to post this question after reading how easy it was to replace the thermostat, but how do you get it out I didn't see any screws. Thanks for the help

There aren't any screws, they are rivets.  My husband used a drill, with a 1/4" drill bit and he drilled out the back ends (the heads of the rivets) you wont need them again.
