Quote from: Chez WayWell just one more week until we are camping again...it has been awhile for us. Last trip was at Mojave Narrows and I guess that doesn't count because we whussed (or is it wussed?) out and spent the night at the Red Roof Inn..(it was worth it!) It will be nice to get back to camping again...no rain, hurricanes or freezing temps are forecast yet, right?

Lori--would you like to do a potluck or two over the weekend? Karen and I haven't really planned anything yet..but we'll probably have tri-tip and baked potatoes Saturday and I'm thinking of making a DO pineapple upside down cake...yum! Maybe I'll try your monkey bread recipe again too. Dee--we'll miss your breakfast burritos!

We will be at Newport Dunes on Saturday for the Vintage Vacations Open House--anyone still going? We'll be cruising through the trailers around noonish.
Quote from: darksidersit's countdown too camping!!! YIPPEEEEE!!!
as for the topic of food, Jeanne & I talked a bit about the menus. We will do soft tacos w/ carne asada and maybe chicken, too, w/ 2 toppings: mango salsa and roasted peppers/onions. I'll do blueberry pancakes one morning. That's all I got for now.
I'd love to contribute to the meals. Which ones are you thinking of--Saturday and Sunday breakfasts and dinners? Please let me know what you're thinking--I want to be sure that I bring something good that everyone will like.

Karen, if you're doing blueberry pancakes one morning I could do waffles the other morning. I could also make bacon the morning you do the pancakes. As for dinners--maybe I could do a caprese salad one night and a dessert another night, and whatever else you are thinking of doing...really truly, please let me know.

Sounds delicious!!  I love the Mexican theme for Sunday's dinner.  I'm thinking key lime pie for dessert. :sombraro: We will also add some fresh fruit for breakfast on Monday morning.

We never eat as well as when we're camping!!  :D

Lori here:  30 minutes and we're out of here.  Everyone have a great and safe weekend! :)

Chez Way

We have to give a big thumbs up to Flying Flags RV.  A really nice RV park and centrally located to a lot of wineries...yikes!  We also enjoyed a day trip to Solvang, the kids loved the playground and we had a great time with the griffsfamily and darksiders....lots of great food, a little bit of poker, good times and surprisingly enough--no rain!  It definitely merits a return visit.

We, too, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves this Memorial Day weekend with Chez Way and Darksiders.

Flying Flags was nice for an RV-style, big-rig park. The sites were grassy, shady, and clean, although pretty close together. Good thing we liked our neighbors. ;) The management was very nice and helpful, especially when a big MoHo tried to take Jeanne and Jim's spot. Registration has a nice little touch: they give you homemade cookies (and dog biscuits if you have a dog) when you check in. We stayed in a W/E site, although there are full hook ups (W/E/S/C) and each site has a picnic table. One thing that I didn't pick up from the Flying Flags Web site is that they do not have firerings for each site, although you can rent them from the cg for $10.00/night. The cg provides free wi-fi access, which was slow but it worked.

The kids enjoyed playing at the playground, riding their bikes and swimming in the pool. On Saturday, Dave, Griffin and I rode our bikes from Refugio cg to El Capitan cg--about 5 miles RT. On Sunday, everyone went into Solvang to walk around and look at all the shops. Griffin and I found and followed a trail that leads down to a little river that runs just south of the cg. Next time, we might try to spend a little part of the day there. As required whenever SCCampers gets together, there was plenty of good food, and as always, good company. :) I only took a few pictures, but I'll try to post them tonight or tomorrow.

Traffic wasn't bad at all for it being a holiday weekend, although we did caught in some lookey-loo traffic on the SB 101 when HazMat crews closed all NB lanes and were trying to offload toxic material from a stalled tanker on the NB side of the freeway. It delayed us maybe 30 minutes or so, but it could have been worse--we could have been going NB! We're already thinking of going back next Memorial Day weekend and have scoped out some sites. If anyone is interested, post and maybe we can get a group rate or something.

What a great time had by all. We all ready miss you guys!!!! Thanks again for indulging me and playing poker. Big winners were Jim and Jeanne, with Karen close behing. Yours truly was dead last. No $$$ honey.

Can't wait to camp again. I'm up for Malibu; I'm curious if Mr. Malibu is still there; or Lake Casitas. Let us know.

PS - Wes can you let us know the name of your Compact Flash card reader and where on the internet you purchased it. Thanks.

darksiders

Yes indeedy, great fun was had by all.  We really liked this cg, too.  although our sites didn't have a lot of real estate, there were some sites that did. it offered all the amenities (xcept a fire ring) and best of all.....wait for it....
NO RAIN!!!! YIPPEE!!!!!
so when are we camping again!?!  can't wait!

and Dave, Wes got his card reader from E-Bay, there's no brand name on the devise, but he found a number of them on the site:
just type in "USB CF CARD READER"
