Me again, just wondering what's our best bet. Will be going to the Poconos in August...will we need reservations? Hubby doesn't want to have to be at a definite destination at a certain time. What do you recommend; private or state parks? We've never been in this area so at a complete loss.
Like amusement parks so hoping to spend a couple days near Hershey too...we have a couple weeks.
   Thanks for any advice!

At that time of the year, and in that region, you'll more then likely need reservations (the Pocono's are a popular destination, and August is a big camping month).

I prefer state parks myself, primarily because they offer sites that are a bit more rustic. But if you like a lot of amenities then a private campground is probably better for you.

Yes to the reservations.  As far as which are best, that depends on how you like to camp.  If you want a full hook up site or planned activities you will need a private campground.  If you don't need hookups or just an electric site then you might want to camp at a state park.  If you are looking for an amusement park have you ever heard of Knoebels Grove?

Well, we're finally narrowing it down to a state park in Pennsylvania. We're down to two...Promised Land & Hickory Run. Which do you folks recommend? Also, the information on Knoebels Grove Resort is interesting; what part of Pennsylvania is that located in? Oh, decisions, decisions. Hubby and I are still discussing reservations or no reservations this August.
