How do you know if you have a water pump, holding tank, or water heater?  I received a replacement Owner's Manual and it talks about these things but we have no idea if we have them or not.

I called the local camping center and they want $60/hr to go over our camper with us :yikes: so I am determined to figure this out without them.

Thanks in advance.

You can determine a lot by walking around your camper and looking closely at the side-walls.

A water heater will have a door that is similar to this one;  http://www.campingworld.com/browse/products/index.cfm?deptID=&subOf=17&prodID=2646&src=TSC

A furnace will have one that looks like this; http://www.campingworld.com/browse/products/index.cfm?deptID=&subOf=209,17&prodID=1084

These panels are exterior.

A freshwater holding tank is usually under a dinette seat cushion; a large plastic tank with hoses running to the outside and to the sink.

The water pump would most likely be under the same seat.

Hope this helps.

There is a DVD available from PUTimes store called Pop-up Basics 101. According to the description, it sounds like it could answer many of your questions. I have to say that I have not seen the DVD and don't know what is actually on it. Just basing this on what I have read.

Sorry gettingfiesty. The DVD I mentioned is not sold in the PUTimes store but there is a link to the "rv education" series on the PUTimes homepage. There is also an ebook that seems to cover the same material. Again, this is not an endorcement of either product since I've never seen either.

If you tell us what type of pop up you have, we can probably tell you if those things were standard or optional on your model.  if they were optional, we can tell you where to find them and what they would look like.

SpeakEasy

Yeah, tell us your brand, model, and year.

CAPEd CODger's pic's are SIMILAR to what I have, but not really close enough for the "newbie" to be able to make a judgement.

Thanks everybody.  I truly appreciate any and all help.  We have some of the basics figured out, but now I want to make sure we are using everything to its full advantage.

We have a 1996 Starcraft Starlounge 1224

I did find the holding tank today (it was underneath the unit) and it looks pretty bad so have bleach water in now and I am heading out to get one of those automative sliders so I can easily get underneath the camper as needed.

We do have a furnace and used that last spring for our first Knoebel's trip (everybody else was freezing and we were toasty warm  :) ).

Thanks again for any other info we should know.

If you have a holding tank, then you have to have a water pump of some sort.  If it is a 12v pump, there should be a switch somewhere in the camper to turn it on.  If you can't find a switch, then you have a manual pump that would operate right from the gally sink.

With either type, when hooked up to city water, the faucet should work just like it does at home.  When using the holding tank, if you have a 12v pump, once the pump is turned on, the faucet works like it does on city water.  The pump will cycle as needed to maintain pressure in the lines.  If you have a manual pump, you usually unscrew the handle all the way, and pump it up and down to get water to come out.

If you can't find the switch and are still unsure whenther you have a 12v pump or not, simply follow the hose leaving the tank.  One will be the fill coming into the tank, and another will be the output to the faucet.  If you follow the hose and it leads directly to the sink, then its a manual pump.  If you follow the hose and you get to something (probably labelled ShurFlo) with wires coming out of it and then on to the sink, then you have a 12v pump.  Good luck

A water heater will in the front trunk if you have one or else in one of the dinette benches.  If you have a water heater you also have a water pump.  The location of the pump is more difficult to determine, but if it is like my PUP just run some water and search for the source of the vibration in the floor and that is where it will be.

Thank you everybody!  I am definately going to order the DVD.  It looks like we do not have a 12V water pump nor a water heater.  Thank you for helping me verify that.

This weekend, I cleaned all the canvas and the camper looks almost new.  Next is cleaning the hardtop and sides and getting them looking new again.  Thanks again everybody.  Only 10 days until our first trip of the year!

Can anybody tell me what this latch on the door is supposed to be for?  It reminds me of the ones that hold down the top, but is broken.  What should it be holding?

Thanks.

It looks like you have a two-piece door.  Correct?  If so, then the broken latch would secure the top part of the door to the bottom.  Is there another latch like like it next to it on the door?

Thanks MountainRev.  That is what I was thinking, but there is only the one and it doesn't  look like there was ever two.  How strange is that?

It appears there are two indentations in the lowest portion of the white upper door panel, indicating that there was a latch on the left.  The label seems to be covering the area that latch would have been.  Are there any other indications that the door has been altered?  How do the two sections attach now to make a one piece unit when you use it?
