Well, we're finally narrowing it down to a state park in Pennsylvania. We're down to two...Promised Land & Hickory Run. Which do you folks recommend? Also, the information on Knoebels Grove Resort is interesting; what part of Pennsylvania is that located in? Oh, decisions, decisions. Hubby and I are still discussing reservations or no reservations this August.

Knoebels Grove is about an hour west of Hickory Run SP, near Elysburg, PA.  Go west on I-80 to the Bloomsburg exit  (Exit 232) onto SR 42.  SR 42 to SR 487 to the park.  It is a free admission (you pay for rides with tickets or hand stamps), free parking, bring you dog, free entertainment, world class roller coasters and bumper car, bring your own food, free pavilion use, shady, with benches to sit on.  It is a great family park.:)

We like HR better then PL. HR is quiet big, has a nice layout, a lot of sites, a lake and, of course, boulder field. The first time we went to PL we found it to be a big park as well, but it's layout wasn't as nice. And neither was the park -- it was in need of updating, especially the site layout.

I know PL was due to be worked on, so some of what we thought were drawbacks may no longer be (we haven't been back for several years now). If they did make some changes it might be worth another look, but it's hard to go wrong with HR.

I had fun at both.  My recollection of Promised Land was that it was less developed than Hickory Run.  Hickory Run probably was a little better in my opinion.  Knoebels is a wonderful park - I think they allow camping there, but it looked like nothing more than an open field / dry camp.  That may have changed since I last visited.
