:usflag: I am a virgin at pop-up ownership, until tomorrow morning that is.

:usflag: I am buying a 92 Coleman PU in the morning.  The PU has a factory roof rack. I am wondering if anyone knows what the max roof capasity is? Can I use Thule racks on it for bicycles (4) without damage? Any other concerns I should consider? Can you point me to an on-line owners manual?

:usflag: Thanks in advance for all information you can provide...

It's not a "factory" rack. But the roof limits are 150 pounds raised and 300 pounds closed. That includes all weight on the roof. ie. roof racks, air conditioner, awning, and anything you put up there.

THANKS for the information....These racks actually start on the front edge of the cover. They rise about 4-6 " above the cover bending then running horizonal to the cover. At the rear of the cover they again bend down and attach to the rear of the cover. The rack is built like a ladder with 3 attachments to the top of the cover under each vertical bar. The rack also has three cross bars.

The PU didn't come from the factory with a roof rack, but the dealer may have added it.  My 1985 Coleman PU had a roof capacity of 300 when it is closed and 150 pounds when it is up.  My 1999 has the same capacity, so I am guessing that is standard for the Coleman/Fleetwood trailers.  You shouldn't have any problem with putting 4 bikes up there, but you will have to take them down before cranking the roof up.  Good luck with the new PU.:)

Coleman, nee Fleetwood, offered Yakima cross bars as an accessory for their PUs.  We had our dealer install ours on our PU roof, and then we use Mako saddles to carry our two Pro Scupper kayaks (each about 60 lbs.)  By having the dealer install the cross bars, you don't void the warranty on the roof.  You may still be able to get them through a dealer.

Here's a few pictures of our roof rack from different angles (sorry I don't have any pics with the kayaks on them though)::

:usflag: Thanks for the photos and the information. The PU does actually have factory racks on it. The previous owner has the owners guide and it shows the racks on the cover photo. I can wait to sleep under the stars tonight. The PU has been garage kept since purchased in 1992. It was used around 15 times. Everything is in cherry condition. The previous owner set it up then took it down while the wife took notes. While it was up we tried all of the electrical and LG equipment, zippers, switches, water, everything we could try.

:usflag: Then we (wife and I) set it up and then took it down using our notes. Very happy about my selection in campers.

:usflag: Hope to see you all out under the stars sometime....GC

The brochures for the 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 all show a PU with a roof rack on the back page.  2004, 2005 and 2006 also show a roof rack on the front cover.  I believe my 1999 owners manual also shows a camper with a roof rack on it, but the rack for all of these years are an accessory, not factory installed.  Have a great time with the new camper!:)
