Good Friday morning to everyone!

Need a bit of advice today.  Our 02 Coleman Niagra is suitable for attaching the empty gray water tank under the trailer for storage. It just needs the accessories and installation. I spoke to the service department at Pecos this morning, and labor would be around $90 plus the parts.

Does anyone have any info on what this entails?  I'm wondering if we should order the parts and do it ourselves.  I will say that I don't want to do any welding, but if it's just screwing pieces parts to the undercarriage, then I'd rather save the $90.

I did a search and did not find anything on the subject before, but I swear I read something in here before about this.

Thanks!  And happy camping to those who are headed out today!

I am surprised that they can still get the parts for it.  I thought that they stopped making after a year or two.  I know someone that had it on their trailer, and I think they installed it themself.  Good luck with the project.:)

I thought about putting a gray water tank on my PU as well. After long hard consideration, I decided that it may not be such a good idea.

The problem is, if your gray water tank is smaller than your water tank, you may be faced with the necessity to empty the tank in the middle of a campout. In a PU, that would require, popping down, hooking up to the TV and going to the dumping station.

I decided that it is much preferable to just have a 5 gal, portable tank that I can carry to the bathroom and pour down the toilet, once a day. In fact, I have 2 of them. Just in case one fills up while in the middle of doing dishes or something, I can swap them then empty the full one at my convenience. This has worked out quite well. I also have a collapsible dolly so that I don't have to carry that heavy thing (40# full) a long distance.

I think what they are talking about is a mounting bracket type of thing.  It's basically a ramp up under the pup for a wheeled tote.  It allows carrying the tank without cutting into your inside storage.  You then just let down the wheeled tote to empty it.

Good idea, but I wouldn't be willing to pay the price.  What's the cost of the parts?

I thought about that too. The bracket would be easy to fabricate and just drill holes and bolt it in place. I still decided the 2 - 5 gal jugs are easier. The larger tank (on wheels) would need to be taken all the way to the dump station. It would be too hard and messy to dump in the toilet. That would entail either a very long walk in some CGs or hooking it up to the TV and pulling it to the dump station. That is just not desirable to me.

It's just so easy to grab the gray water jug when your going to to rest room and dump it while you're there IMO. Having 2 is nice because there is no interruption in service and you can take the one that is in use, even if it just has a gallon or two and put the empty one in it's place.

Hi Guys,
We wouldn't use the gray water tank while it is hung from the camper. This would only be to transport it. We are buying a second gray water tank this weekend (15 gallon) so that we don't have to switch the tanks around when we do the shower. (we aren't so industrious that we want to take on the dual drain to one tank modification).  I was just looking for an easy way to get the tank out of the storage trunk.  The more I think about it, the money just isn't worth it. The new tank will already cost a chunk.  The tank we have doesn't have a handle or many of the hoses that came with it. You just have to bend over to roll it around. So it will be our shower tank.

Wavery, you've got me thinking about just using the collapsible 5 gallon bucket for the shower.  That's easy to store!  And not much money out of pocket.

Thanks!

Ya......that's what we use. Carolyn strips down and I dump a 5 gallon bucket of water on her :J        j/k :p

The Fleetwood under floor storage tank is used to store the EMPTY holding tank only.  It was a wide wedge shaped grey water tank made to fit in the under floor rack.  If you have a 2002 Fleetwood brochure it is pictured in the accessories on page 15.:)

The biggest issue with those wheeled totes for me is money.  I refuse to pay $60+ for a plastic bottle.  I use a 7 gallon Aquatainer, and sooner or later I'll start using 2 of them.  I'd much rather pay $20 for 2 7 gallon containers.

But carrying them under the floor is still a possibility.

Yes, as Tracy said, this is merely a rack to store the Coleman, nee Fleetwood, grey storage tank.  It is meant to store the grey tank when not in use and not to turn a grey water container into an under-the-floor holding tank.
