Trouble cranking open

Bought a used popup this spring.  I have trouble sometimes getting the crank to "engage" - to actually get the crank to start clicking and open up the camper.  It often just turns without any clciking or effort to open.  Thoughts?

When the crank engages, it works fine.  I just have trouble getting it to "engage".

It sounds like you may be cranking it too far down.  When you lower the roof and get near the bottom.  Watch the roof.  When it stops moving down stop cranking.
