hello all, we are looking for a campground near Asheville, Nc.  I found one that I think we would like //www.ncrivercamping.com  French Broad River campground.  It looks like a nice place, just wondering if any of you have been there or can tell me about a place near by.

Thanks for your help!

It is about an hour away from Asheville, but Flaming Arrow Campground in Cherokee NC, is a  very nice campground.  When we were there it rained every day and the bathrooms were kept spotless.:)

IIRC, less than an hour from Asheville is Moonshine Creek Campground. Website is http://moonshinecreekcampground.com/ , appropriately enough. :)

Here's my review:

A couple more links close by Asheville

 Mama Gerties Hideaway CG

 Asheville's Bear Creek

Both of these are high rated sites and are highly recommended.

Ok, it's me again.  We went last week and camped 3 nights.  Pulled into the place, the river was AWESOME.  But it was down hill from there.  sites are small...bath house was ok...two potties and one shower that you had to hold on to the handle to make it work.  During the day you had to put up with garbage trucks FLYING by on the road above you....and a  FREIGHT TRAIN across the river.  We over looked the noise of the trucks (at night the truck noise stopped) and the kids enjoyed counting the cars of the train as it went by.  They had a great time playing in the river and the fire flies were so pretty at night.  We made the best of it and still had a good time, but we will not be going there again.  It's too bad, cause this place has a lot of potential, don't think the owners had ever been campers.  JMHO

How about trying a little further down the road.

WHEW, seems a bit pricey!!!!  $44.00 a night for a family of four....It would have cost us 80 a night with us and the other couple that came along!  But it does look nice.

My friends and I - all with families ages from 1 to 43 - stay at this campground right outside of Asheville.  We really enjoy it.  Nice wooded lots, we had a blast and have a blast when we go.

I have read on other posts on the net that people thought the staff was "rude".  I have never experienced that.  People and staff were always extremely friendly.

Full Hook sites are hard to get and I think first come first serve.  We usually tent camp (looking to buy a PUP).  As described in the original post, bath house seems similar BUT it was a nice hot shower.

This place is tucked away right in the middle of everything.  Sliding rock, looking glass falls, and the fishery are all within 5 minutes and right ourside the campground is a small town with WALMART - Pizza Hut - and some other quick spots should the weather not treat you well around the campfire.  Ahseville is within 20-30 minutes and noce attractions there.  We even took a little day trip (during the rain) to a nice little restaurant that was featured on the food network for there homeade pies.  lemme tell ya - GREAT.  Wish I could remember the daggon name but I'll ask my friends and post it.

We had a great time and for anyone I would recommend it.  Very nice, very quiet, nice river to tube or swim, excellent hiking trails.  I give this one 4 out of 5 stars from my experiences.

Davidson River CG in Brevard is less than an hour south of  Asheville.  Great CG with lots of hiking, biking, waterfalls, fishing in the area.  This is one of our favorites.
