Andym86 likes this campground.  I was camping at Bald Eagle SP near Bellefonte last weekend and went over and checked out the park.  I went to the office and asked if I could look at the campground.  The people were very nice and gave me a map, brochure, rate list, etc. and showed me the sites PUs usually like.  When I drove around the corner of the office I was very sad to see rows of sites for big rigs.  I was thinking NO WAY at this point, but I continued on to the side of the campground where PUs usually camp.  The site were small, and basically open on 3 sides.  They were better than the rows of big rig sites, but not really what I like.  I continued up the hill to the top of the campground, and checked out the bathroom there.  It wasn't fancy, but it was clean.  Next I checked out the wooded sites, pull through and back in.  They were much nicer.  The sites were still small and close together, but they were wooded and much more private.  There are also cabins at the campground.  So Andy when do you want to set up a trip to this park?:)

OMG Tracy - are you actually saying you want to go to a KOA?  Excuse me when I pick up my jaw from off the floor.  :p   LOL!

Seriously, we're interested in heading to this place.  The Amish coming to that KOA to sell stuff has peaked my interest!

We went there last year. We ended up in the crowded front rows, but there were some empty wooded sites in the back. There was a power outage just as we finished setting up, and didn't have power until early morning. We played bingo by flashlight. It was a nice campground, and there are several quaint little towns to explore. We went to Penn's cave, which is the only cavern you visit by boat. Mount Nittany vineyard has some good wines and cheese. Yes, we bought some excellent pumpkin bread from an Amish wagon that came around. Update on the sunroom,  we have a roof, windows and doors now. They are shingling the roof today.  I will be so glad when it is done!!!!!!!

No I am not saying that I want to go.  I like Bald Eagle SP better, but I am willing to go there.  I know Andy like the place.  It is acceptable.:)

You were about 45 minutes from my house when you were at Penns Cave.  We have been there several times.  I am glad you sun room is coming along.:)

Plan on us being there!!  Very scenic area, especially with the Victorian homes.

Just don't get a block of sites on the big rig sites, they're lousy.  The camper was hanging over a hill almost to the next road.  I think I had to fix the A/C because of the heat wave and those dozens of big rigs sucking down the 50Amp power in a full campground.  We lose power, and they all go on generator for the night!  But like P said, it was a great experience in spite of (or because of?).

On the other hand, if I had one next to me, I would have plugged into them!

Hi Guys

It is after all a KOA.
We used to stay there during college football season.
Friends of ours had season tickets every year and they stayed at the KOA Bellefonte for the season,in they're Big Rig!
On saturday mornings, early, some of those rigs would leave to go to the stadium and everybody woke up.
We didn't go there so much for the camping(you know me well enough by now,I'll go dry camping in a state park anytime),but it was nice there for what we were doing.
The staff/owners are very nice(Barbara,Rick and Tim) and my favorite was having breakfast in the barn on sunday ! I believe that goes from 4 th of july to Labor day.
Also the surrounding areas are nice, there is plenty to do.
Will have to figure out when we can go there.

Just a thought - please DON'T make it a holiday weekend.  The more secluded sites would be grabbed by those in the know, and we would get booked out in the parking lot campsites.

OK my friend.

How is the weekend of August 4th to the 6th ?

BTW, Helga and I are going to "our" campground in Upstate New York, Cranberry Lake, from August 18 to the 27.
It's our 25th Anniversary and we're going camping!
That's all I can afford, since we're sending the kids to Hawaii for their Honeymoon, lol.
If anybody wants to join us,please do!

Andy

We will be coming back from our 13 night trip on the 4th.  I don't know if DS would be willing or if I will be able.  We will be coming up 220, so the campground will be sort of on our way home.:eyecrazy:

OK, lets go.  Here is the plan.  We will all go up there the end of Aug....I don't know what date yet.  I will bring the Caravan and moose and camper and will load up Michael's stuff for college.  Then, on Penn State move in day, we will all load into the Caravan and other cars and head on up to University Park, and we will all help Michael move into his dorm.  With all of the helping hands, it should take no time at all.  I think that sounds like a plan. :D

SheBantam

Sounds like a plan to me Becky, I could pull the Cabin with the truck and you could stack Michael's stuff in where my camping stuff is not...Just tell me where you live and I will be there with the half empty truck...Just how much stuff does he have to suff into one of those tiny dorm rooms????

HersheyGirl

Wow!  This is the very first thread that I have hijacked.  Paula, he actually doesn't have that much, we were able to put all of his stuff into the caravan with the back seats out.  I had him but everything into plastic boxes or the mess popup bags that I got at the farmers market.  We then piled all the boxes onto the handtruck and took it up to his room, but we did have to make 3 trips to get it done.  I suspect that he will have more stuff come the fall.  Any and all help would be appreciated.  :D   I guess we can say...We Are Penn State!

DiW

Hi Beckie. I didn't realize he was coming home. Thought he was there for good. Too bad he can't just leave his stuff. And yes, if he's like most college students, he will acquire stuff and come home with more than you can imagine...

HersheyGirl

Hey Di,   he is in a different dorm for the summer than what he will be in the fall.  He is going into the EASI house dorm...I think it is Engineering and Science something...but anyway, different dorm.  He has to vacate this summer and relocate this fall.  I have talked to other parents of college kids and you are so right about all of the extra stuff they accumulate in such a short amount of time. :D
