Has anyone installed one themselves? I have a Chevy trailblazer that is prewired and got a price quote of $165 for the controller and putting it in. The controller is $60 and the adapter is about $15 at camping world. Thanks

R Jays Speed Shop has Progidys for 99.95 and the adaptor is under ten bucks...You can install it yourself. It's easy to do, just follow the directions that come with the controller. If you have problems just ask, there are plenty of people here who can help help you out......

If you look online you can find brake controllers pretty cheap.  I got my Prodigy and harness for about $124 delivered.

Hooking it up was something that even I could do.  Held the bracket in place under the dash and marked the holes.  Made sure nothing was behind where I was going to intall it and attached the braket with the self tapping screws that came with the Prodigy.  

For the harness, just plugged one end into the socket under the dash ( instructions with the harness told me right where it would be for my vehicle), plugged the other end into the Prodigy and it worked just fine.  The GF is still amazed I did it myself

DH installed ours also and it was an easy job.  We however chose not to put holes in our tv and he used a heavy duty velcro instead and it works great.

Installing the Prodigy in my Dodge pickup was very easy.. I removed the ash tray which I didn't use and the mounting bracket just fit into the hole. Fastened it at the top of the hole and pluged it in. It is at a convient height snd easy to get to..Ash tray can be put back when I trade the truck and no holes will show......

Easy enough.  My ranger didn't have the tow package, so I had to wire myself.  Used 12 guage wire and a 30 amp fuse holder to wire the positive and negative to the battery terminals, a 14 guage wire and scotchblock to tap into the cold wire of the brake switch on the brake pedal and the hardest part, running the 12 guage wire from the controller back to the brake pin of the RV connector on the rear of the truck.  I couldn't find a good place on the dash to attach the controller, so I removed the case of my CB on the console and drilled holes to attach it to the top of the CB.

On the Trailblazer there is a black peice of plastic running along the bottom of the knee plate. Remove it and up above the hood release will be a pigtail of wires. They do not have a connector on them but if you follow the directions that come with the prodigy it won't take very long to wire up. The hardest part will be deciding where to mount the brake controller. I installed mine on the black plastic panel.

If you have the connector wired for the SUV it is a simple job.  If there isn't a connector then you will have to connect a few wires.  I recommend the Prodigy brake controller, by Tekonsha,  and then get the Chevy/Teknosha wire harness IF the SUV has the plug.  If it doesn't have the plug you just connect the wires from the SUV to the wire harness that came with the Prodigy.  I also have my Prodigy Velcro-ed to my TV.  Good luck.
