Hello i have never even looked at a popup before , but i baught a used coleman .laramie 1987 . and i dont know how to use the electric.  when you go in the door there is a on/off togle switch ,dont know what it is for.  on the converter there is a switch you push and it pops out then in on /off but i dont know if in is on, or out is on. and what do you use it for .i know i sound dumb ,and i am on this subject for sure .any help would be appreicated  thank you Bobby

Monterey

On our Coleman Monterey, the switch inside the door controls the "step" light.  If you have a stepper door (folds down to become the entry step) there should be an amber light down there that is controlled by the switch.

New to this stuff myself so I can't really help with the converter question.

I don't think they had stepper door lights back in 1987.  I know my 1985 didn't have one and it did have a switch by the door.  I am trying to remember what it was for???  As for the converter the switch needs to be ON to convert 110 AC electric to 12 volt DC electric.  The ceiling lights, and if you have them, water pump, furnace, and other appliances in the PU run off of 12 volt (and propane).  Have you tried plugging the PU in to see if the electrical system works?  I always left my converter on.  If you plan on connecting a battery to the camper, check the tongue to see if you have a black and white wire going into a small white connector.  If you do setting up a battery will be easy.  Go to a Fleetwood dealer and buy a stet of Coleman/Fleetwood battery wires.  I have a picture in my web shots folder.  The black wire is the positive and white is the negative.  There is a small self resetting circuit breaker on the positive line.  Connect the wires to the battery and then plug the connector into the wires on the tongue of the trailer.  Good luck with the camper.:)

I have a 1982 Coleman Sequoia and the switch by the door is for the outside porch light.  Took me a while to figure this one out too.  It's been a while since I looked at my converter, so I can't help you right now.  I'll be taking it out soon and will look again then.
