I know, I know, some of us just got home from Yosemite.  But it was mentioned that Camp Edison at Shaver Lake might be a good place to try out next year on the other side of Yosemite.  Here's a link for everyone to check out.  I don't know how far it is from the park.

My recollection is that this is about 2 hours out of Fresno.  We've been to Shaver and loved it.  As long as there are full hookups (which I saw Edison had), we would be game!

OC Campers

This is one of my kids' favorite campgrounds. Lots of lake swimming and water sports. The only hiccup is their reservation policy. Last time we went (last year) they wanted a $100 deposit for each site. Plus, you had to mail or fax in your reservation. This would probably have to be an advance reservation/deposit type rally because of the cost involved.

I think most sites are water and electric. There are some full-hookup sites available too. When would everyone like to go? It does get cool here, I think it is set at 4000 ft elevation. Unfortunately, it is a VERY popular cg so choosing a date that is not near a holiday or during the summer rush is a good idea. I would think maybe the end of June or maybe  sometime in September (2007).

I'm with Kristi on the full hook-ups... It looks really nice...what is the Bear situation I noticed the lock boxes for food in the campsite pics

BootheBunch

We'd be up for it during the summer.  Uh, ditto on Dee's question about the lockboxes....not a Yogi lover.

Took a look again at the campsite pics -- I'm thinking those boxes are more for tenters to secure their stuff than they are to deter bears.  With shingle roofs on them, I'm thinking that they're made of wood, and if that's the case they're definitely NOT bear-proof.  Bear boxes are thick, thick steel with slide bolts on them that you put a lock through.  What's on the boxes in the pics only have a small metal loop for a lock.  So Lisa, I wouldn't worry.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the list of campsites they have several that are called group sites.  Kind of interesting.  Might be worth looking into.  It also looks like sites 133-175 are full hook-up.  Bet they go quickly!

Maybe when Lori (our resident editor) gets time she can scrutinize the site & figure out exactly what we'd need to do to reserve & how early we'd need to do it.  There'd have to be some pretty early committing by folks, but their cancellation policy looks pkay as long as you do it early enough.

Isn't it fun to dream?  It would be great to be on a lake for a change!  :D

Wow; we were just there! We spent five days and six nights; right thru Fathers day and into monday when we left! We stayed at Dorabella camp site's with two other families! They brought 2 boats. one a fishing boat the other, a ski boat! Theresa learned how to water ski for the first time! I will try to post the pictures of the campout but I have not been able to so far.
The campground where were, had no hookups! We were roughing it but our friends brought their fifthwheels and generators. It was quite an adventure! We did go to the edison campground maily for showers and to recharge the trailer's battery once. The edison campsites were very nice! It took us exactky 3 hours from bakersfield to the campsite each way so the notion of being two hours out of fresno is off by an hour!

Im going to try and set up the pictures on webshots and get all of them out so all can see.
I hope one of these attachments goes thru.

Trying a new approach to get the webshot pictures of shaver lake out to all of you. Hope this works because webshots says that I am not communicating with it at this time and I need to change my settings, etc, etc!

Laura was correct, the little bird house things were for you to store your food in instead of keeping it out or on the ground.  When we were there we saw NO Yogi's or Boo Boo's.  I have no idea what the group sites are like.  I never looked at them.  I want to try and find a cg map.  I know I had one but can't find it.  There is a section of sites at the top of the cg next to the "jumping rock" as my kids call it that are heavily shaded and very near the water.  I think they only are water and electric (preferred sites per SCE site pricing).  They are very nice sites.

I'm saying full H/U..If I go that far I want to stay and extended time and I don't want to hitch up and dump tanks. also I melt easy & I need A/c. hopefully by then I will have my wiring fixed if not I have no battery power and I found out I can't run my fridge on propane I guess it needs battery power to start it up.

Call me a wuss but I bought a hybrid 'cause my days of roughing it are over..I had my fun now I'm a prima donna

I doubt the group sites have full hook ups.  In fact I am pretty sure they only have water and electric.   This campground is VERY popular and you will not have a large selection of sites to choose from.  In fact you have to mail in your reservation and then they call you and let you know what they have available.

As far as sewer goes, I am pretty sure they had a honey wagon that came by so you could dump without breaking camp.  This may be a question to ask them at reservation time.

We stayed here a week last June and had a great time.  I could of stayed another week.  It just isn't the easiest place to get reservations at.

Oh come on!  Bear Smear --- We had a bear within 20 feet of our campsite this past weekend in Yosemite.  It was devouring the bathroom the bathroom trash and we enjoyed watching it.  When it was done, it just wondered away.  I was so tempted to open the door of the trailer and take a picture but DH didn't think it was a good idea.  I tried taking a picture through the window but that didn't work.  They are so cute.!!!!

Laura this place looks very nice and love the shaded sites........Plus they look a little bigger then the Lakes...After you left we had a tent put up right under our bed and it had two very loud teenage boys. Thank goodness they only stayed one night......Jim and I would love to go back to Yosemite...Keep us posted.....Do want to have water and Electric......need our A/C

Camp Edison is one of the pride and joys of SoCalEdison employees, as it is actually operated by the company on SCE owned forest land. It is very well maintained and managed. The reservation system is hard to deal with though....

In the good old days, SCE employees had priority for 1/2 the sites. Nowadays, there is no priority system.

Shaver Lake is a popular boating lake, and Camp Edison has a marina. Not too far up the road is a nice quiet lake (Huntington) which is used by sailboats and fishermen.

I think this would be a great place to have a rally
