Hey all!

We're heading back up to North Lake this weekend if anyone would like to come up for a campfire or something...  I'll be on site 176 which is the one Tracy usually has.

tlhdoc

Thanks for the invite, but many of us will be camping in Bath, NY at Hickory Hills this weekend and next week.  Too bad you can't join us.:)

DiW

Sorry Rick but we'll be at Hickory Hills too. Can't you postpone N/S and come join us? I think there were some cancellations so a site might be available.

HersheyGirl

Yes Rick, I was thinking the same thing as DiW.  Come along with us!  You know you will have a good time. :)

Hey guys - wish I could meet you all there!

We are short a TON of officers at work, and I have been "getting stuck" a LOT to cover it. For those of you that don't know what "getting stuck" is - it means that you are required to stay, can't come home, forced to work 16 hours, and it totally sucks. It happened 3 times last week and once this week already. I am literally exhausted. My plan is to just sleep in the PU as much as possible. I somehow managed to get Sunday off too.  According to mapquest it's:

Total Est. Time:  4 hours, 2 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 242.93 miles

If Bath was a tad closer I'd be up for it, but I really just need to be popped up ASAP and either sleep or make a fire and sit in front of it.

BTW, it makes me feel really good that you want me to join you guys... you are true friends and I can't wait to see you on the DE trip!

tlhdoc

Oh come on Rick.  That is only 4 hours.  I drive longer to go to N Lake.  You can do this and you can sleep all day if you want.  WHO is going to build the fire?  dthurk is going to bring a face cord of wood and we need to make sure it all gets burned up.  This place has a bathroom with a heated floor, and the bathrooms are really, really clean.:)

dthurk

Are you in Fishkill?  Check out mapquest.  I'll bet Bath is also about a 4 hour trip.  We can make it to NYC in less that 5 hours from here (20 minutes east of Bath).  It shouldn't cost you anything at all in driving time to change plans.

copcarguy

Tracy - if I was up to it and not feeling worn out you know I would drive up there...  I just can't physically make it.  I've been nodding off on the way home from work each night.  :yikes:  I don't know how work can expect us to keep this up.  They really need to do something.

dthurk - those times / miles I gave from mapquest were for a trip to Bath from Fishkill.  Where I'm headed is just 60 miles from home.

The thought of a whole face cord for a camping trip gets my heart racing.  I wish I could be there!  See you guys in DE!

Sorry I misunderstood you.  Shows my reckoning must  be pretty accurate, though.  60 miles is quite a bit shorter.  Was hoping to meet you.

If you're heart's racing now, just keep in mind I'm prepared to go out and get another face cord if we use this one up too quickly.  It's a quick trip with the utility trailer.

copcarguy

Hey guys...dthurk - man you are killing me!!  I am sure we'd have no problem using that much wood...  lol  I'm sure we'll get to meet another time.

You mean, with this crew, I'll be making DAILY runs for wood?  :yikes:  I can only carry one face cord at a time.  And to think we were going to work from those little, expensive bundles they sell in the office.  That would look like a progression of big ants streaming in line from the office to the fire.  How big a fire will we be making here?  Will there be reports in the Elmira newspaper of a mysterious orange glow in the western sky the next day?

I try very had to NEVER buy the little bundles of wood at a campground.  Usually there is wood sold locally that is less expensive and I usually bring my own wood.:)

I've been carrying my own wood ever since I got some "seasoned" wood from a campground office that was so green it wouldn't burn.  That, and the exhorbitant (how do you spell that?) cost.  I'm still working on a face cord I bought 2 seasons ago for $35.  I keep it tarped in the backyard.  Obviously, we don't have a campfire every night we're camping, but I can usually get 3 fires out of a rubbermaid container that I use to carry it in.

I get free scrap wood from work.  Most of it is kiln dried oak scraps.  I also don't have to worry about carrying bugs from one area to another this way.:)

Wow.  If I had that available for free I'd be taking it too.
