Potential roof problem?????

Yesterday when I was getting ready to leave the campground, and folding the camper up and all that good stuff, I had some folding chairs in one of the bunk ends that I had forgot about and proceeded to lower the roof. once I was done the front had came all the way down but the back was still up a couple inches or so because of the chairs. So I raised the roof back up enough to get them out and lowered it again. I had to push the back down a little bit after this to get it to close the rest of the way but just a little. I guess the question I'm asking is would this have caused any damage to the lift mechanisms? I personally don't think it did but Im not an expert either. :)  This is my first popup and I am still figuring things out as I go and love it. By the way it doesn't have cables in the lifts, it has springs according to the diagram in the owners manual. It's a 2002 Aero Voyager made by Thor I believe.

Or am I just overly paranoid???  :yikes:

It may well be that no one has experience with this situation on a Aero Voyager. In some cases, no advice can be better than wrong advise.

I will hazard a guess that the supports (if you have supports) may have simply been out of alignment when you finally put the top down (after the chair jamb). It may serve you well to put the top up and put it down again to see if it operates smoothly now. It may also be a good idea to wipe some silicone on any metal surfaces that slide over each other. I don't even know if that applies on your set-up. That's why I didn't reply sooner.

As for me, I know zilch about your popup or what type lift sytem it has. Had that been my Starcraft with the Goshen Lift System, I know it would not have hurt a thing. AND, a couple things I know for sure about the Goshen System: (1) do not forget to undo the roof latchs and then try to raise the roof ... that system will raise the lifters right through the roof of the camper! (2) after the roof is lowered and latched for travel down the road, take the slack out of the system by turning the lift spindle (where the crank handle fits into) hand tight so that the lifters are snug while tooling down the road.

Now ... you know as much as I do! (LOL)

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I was just getting a little ancy for any kind of answer. Not sure what type of lift it exactly is, I do know that there aren't cables in the actual lift mechanism, Springs I believe and the cables pull on those I guess. It's the same thing as a Dutchmen if that helps anybody out or not. I wouldn't think that it would hurt anything either but I will find out this weekend. I guess i'm just paranoid because when I first bought it last month the roof was out of adjustment and I took it back to the dealer to get it fixed. The back wasn't raising up enough and causing problems with the door. I guess I'm afraid that its going to throw everything out of whack again. I'll give an update after I use it this weekend.

:) Used the camper this weekend and everything seems to be ok. I still had to push the back down a little the rest of the way but everything seems to be alright as far as I can tell. Guess i'm just paranoid being my first popup and all. :yikes:
